Wait what, open note test?

Well, you didn’t attend class which led to you missing a big piece of information so you really can’t tell others to not say something on the lines of “You should have gone to class.”

But anyways, you really can’t just email the professor and expect to get extra credit just because you didn’t show up to class on the day the professor told everyone about the final. Anything a professor says during class is completely fair game and if you miss class that day, it’s your responsibility to ask the professor on what you missed in class that day. I had a friend who missed the last day of class before the final for an Asian American class and he ended up doing wrong prompt for one of the two final essays he had to turn in. He ended up getting an F for one of them and got an F in the class. He email his professor making up some excuse on why he submitted the wrong prompt but his grade stayed the same…why? Because no matter what reason you miss class for, it’s still your responsibility to find out what you missed. Asking a classmate (like you did) is still good but then the classmate can secretly be competitive and purposely leave out some info…like your friend did in this case.

And also, it will also be a little unfair to your classmates if you got extra credit just because you did your test by memory when they didn’t have to. Unless there was a policy saying “If you do the test by memory, you get extra credit”…you really can’t ask for extra credit since the directions for the final was made clear during a class day. Imagine if you were another student in the class who show up to class that day the professor gave info on the final…and then you hear that another student demands to get extra credit for the final just cuz he did it from memory (due to he failed to show up to class that one day) when it was made clear that final was open notes. That would be extremely unfair wouldn’t it?

And btw, no one really flamed you at all in their responses. They have all made valid points.

One more comment;

In upper level engineering courses “open book”=“**** hard”!!!

Well, I managed to pass the class with a C.

Congratulations on salvageing the grade. Sincerely! A C is way better than an F.
