Waiting for Davis?

I was waitlisted for Davis so I’m looking into the 3 schools I got into.

I’m planning to do either biochemistry/microbiology/biological sciences and continue onto medical school. I’m stuck among UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly SLO, and University of the Pacific. If Davis is accepting me I’m going there instead. ^^ But in the advent that they don’t, which school should I have as a backup since they seem to be similar to me in many respects.

UCSC or Cal Poly SLO(UCSC is prob a better pick), UOP isn’t worth the money. Cal Poly SLO iono how good they r for bio sciences.

UCSC would be a good choice.

Please don’t go to UOP. =(

Yeah, I was thinking UCSC, but my parents are against it because their coworkers and relatives knew it to be a bad school. =P Does anyone have tips on convincing them that SC isn’t that bad? (They’re worried about drugs, funding, class sizes, etc.)

@$KingsElite$

That’s the school they want me to go to…

Yeah I wouldn’t pick UOP…UCSC or Cal Poly

@SC1822

Tell them UOP is car theft, car theft, and car theft. And pretty much, I’m going to UCSD, which I’m sure has larger class sizes than UCSC on average and it’s a non-issue dealing with learning. For some reason people assume you can’t learn anything in large classes. There’s more individual help at a large university than there was in high school. I promise you that, so it shouldn’t be a HUGE issue. But just, UOP is in Stockton, enough said.

UCSC has a very solid bio program, I believe. It’s well known especially for it’s marine bio major. I’ve heard its rank in the top 15 in the nation(I heard better than UCSD’s marine bio major)

UCSC does have a health science major which looking at the course stuff, seems to get u prepared for med school.

Cal Poly SLO…in my opinion, if you’re not going there for engineering or architecture, dont bother -.-.

I would say go with UCSC, the other schools seems unrelated and will probably not prepare you as much for your field.

If your parents are worried about funding check this out:

 • In 2009, UCSC received a $2.2 million grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to fund a training program in stem cell research. CIRM funding awarded to UCSC now totals $19.4 million.
 • UCSC researchers received $131.1 million in external contracts and grants in 2007-08.

Hope that changes their mind. :)

Alright, I’ll try asking them again. Thanks for everybody’s help!
