Waiting for Decisions - Penn State Class of 2024

So Admissions claims the portal is updated once a day but we’ve not heard (on CC or in person) of a single admission for some time now, once the initial activity settled down. Only one student from our HS (which had over 100 PSU applicants last year) has heard back, unless people haven’t checked or haven’t shared their news. Anyone else hear of anecdotal acceptances?

The Thursday before Thanksgiving last year was busy on CC. Here’s hoping that happens again. ?

He can, but there does’t seem to be any reliable information on where that places his application in line for review purposes (if you are hoping for Early Action)

Very good info. Thanks for posting!

My daughter also applied to HHD in the first week of august, no response yet. SAT: 1270, GPA: 4.1, PA resident, extracurricular: volunteer firefighter. hopefully soon, definitely relating to the “OPC”

Does anyone know if the portal updates at a specific time daily or if it is just rolling updates?

For eastern time generally at times like 3pm or 5pm. Maybe even later, but I think no later than 8pm. Someone did say that they release decisions at 8am which I’m not sure is the case.

For anyone wondering whether PSU would like to see Q1 grades, we got the following email response (which has me a little concerned that it’s not going to be good news for S20, but I’m trying not to read into things):

“Dear xxxx,

Please do not send your current year grades. It is not part of the application review and admission decision process.

The Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) that you have submitted will be used in our review of your application.

Thank you for your interest in Penn State and for applying!

Have a great day!”

@OceanIsle that’s correct - PSU never looks at senior year grades. They also don’t read recommendation letters.
Wishing you the best of luck!

@OceanIsle , we tried to submit my daughters first semester grades too and got a similar response. That was three years ago. She got accepted to UP and is a junior in nursing so I wouldn’t read anything into that email response. PSU just won’t look at them.

I’m back at it with my next kiddo. Obsessive portal checking is a way of life.

Moved post to different thread

Checked the portal this morning at 6am (to test the 8am theory) and DS is admitted to UP College of Engineering!! 19 Honors and AP classes 3.9U, 4.24W. High math stats, calc, physics, engineering academy class, etc. Applied for summer session and got it. Very excited this morning!

Congratulations to everyone posting acceptances!

I checked the portal before I went to bed last night and there was nothing. My D checked this morning around 7am and was accepted! Not sure why admissions told me 8am, but there’s obviously no rhyme nor reason to the updating of the portal.
Good luck!!! I’m rooting for you all!

I checked last night around 9pm and it still said under review. This morning at 4:30 am it had changed to Accepted. Good luck to all!

Son got Accepted this morning, very happy for him. Good luck to all!!
SAT: 1450
GPA: 3.8 UW
State Residency: TX
Gender: M
Applied date: 10/12
Applied Early Action?: Yes
Decision date: November 21
Decision/College: Accepted/College of Engineering (Computer Science)
Campus: University Park

It still seems as though only Engineering and Science colleges are giving out acceptances. My son is Business and I haven’t seen but one for Smeal. Suspense is killing just like it did for son #1 two years ago.

Friend’s daughter was accepted for BioChem. She’s top of the class with good SATs and lots of ECs.

I have seen a few for Smeal. We are still waiting. There is a link for the decisions page earlier in this post.

Nothing yet for my engineering son. 30 ACT and 3.78uw GPA so not amazingly high stats. Excellent EC. Top 4% in class. Maybe they are doing OOS first.

During this time, will they also be sending out rejections or do they wait to send those?

A few friends of my son just heard this morning for information sciences technology. We are waiting on DUS…the wait is AGONIZING!!! Those that got in have high 1200 SATs and 3.8 or better GPAs.

I’m a student worried about my chances of getting into UP, not sure if i’m prone to this stress or if i should be worried. Here are my stats:

Applied: EA (first week of september)
SAT: 1290
GPA: 97.1 Weighted
Rank: 43/426
3 varsity sports and captain of each team, 2 summer jobs and 1 summer sports team, National Honor society, member of 1 additional school related club
Applied for DUS Fall 2020 with yes to summer option

I wouldn’t be surprised if my decision is deferred to next deadline or i get summer session but should i worry about not getting into UP? Thanks!
