Waiting for Financial Aid

I’m so happy that I was lucky enough to get accepted to BC! The only problem is that my financial aid application says that it’s still incomplete. All of the tax forms have been received, except for the student 1040 IRS tax returns, which I wasn’t required to file in 2010. I sent Student Services an e-mail asking what I should do, and I’m hoping that they consider my file complete though the portal says it’s not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We have a similar problem. Like you, some of the documentation they want is non-existent (e.g. parent tax return from parents who are deceased). I was told we needed to write a letter and submit other documentation, and mail it to the financial aid processing center in Randolph. They also told me that it would take a week or two to sort through the materials I sent, and then a week or two to do the aid award.

Also, when I called BC last week to schedule a tour, the helpful student who answered the Admissions line told me, in the course of our conversation, that her aid award hadn’t come through until the very last minute before the May 1 decision deadline. Sure makes it hard to make an informed decision.

Perhaps you should call student services to make sure they got your email, and now have everything they need. It couldn’t hurt.

brokensecrets, I called BC back when I was first applying for financial aid and from the lady who I spoke with, I was given the impression that I just didn’t have to send in the IRS form for myself since I was not required to file it. She said they’d follow up and have me fill out a form confirming that I was not required to fill out a tax return at some point after acceptance. However, I was waitlisted so I never found out if this information was correct.

Also, catie33, my dad is deceased and we had no issues with any of the tax returns that we had to mail in. I just put on the FAFSA and CSS Profile that my dad had died and put the date of his death, and we were never asked about any forms for him. When I checked on the Agora financial aid check page (or whatever you call it) it said that everything was complete except for my student tax form. Have you been specifically asked about tax forms for something like this?

OP:

complete the form on the attached link and then fax a copy to Student Services (at the number on the top). Then send hardcopy to the Randolph PO Box. If you are OOS, I suggest USPS Priority Mail for $4.95 which is 2nd day air. (Yeah, I get that the info is probably marked on Profile, but this form will allow them to ‘check the box’ and speed up your processing.)

Good luck.

I have the exact same situation but when I called Student Services yesterday, they said don’t worry about it and when they see that the only document left in the Student 1040, they will assume that the student did not file a 1040.

I urge you to send the form from the link bluebayou has provided for you. Regardless to what the person at student services tells you. If you are not a tax filer you must fill out that form or they will not touch your financial aid application. You have to remember the students that answer the questions have very little knowledge of FA. Good luck!

Thanks so much to all of you! I’m still waiting to hear back, and I faxed that form this afternoon. I really hope to hear back from them on time, and highly appreciate all of your advice =]
