riku92mr, I hear your pain. I think the weather may have delayed some of the mailings. My daughter was told she would hear from IU by early February. She did not get her letter until February 16, but the letter was dated February 2. There have been days when we receive only junk mail, and some days no mail at all. I’m sure that between closures at the colleges and the burden on the post office, that there have been unusual delays this year. Hang in there!

‘The waiting is the hardest part…’ (Petty said it best!)

Two schools of thought: spend the time planning or sit back and take deep breaths.

You can occupy your whirling mind planning what to do if various scenarios present themselves: how will I make the choice between the dream school that’s a stretch financially and the affordable decent alternative, for example. It’s tough sometimes to figure out what to do with offers.

Or, you can take a break from the intensity of applying and auditions and just be a high school student. Know you’ve done what you can to present your best self. Or, if you’re second-guessing, forgive yourself and move on.

I suggest the second approach. I know you weren’t necessarily looking for advice, so I’ll also offer just sympathy and the 20/20 lookback to say ‘this too shall pass.’ Hang in there! It’ll be over soon!

The waiting never ends, sorry. Ah, you were expecting encouragement and along comes me. My S is graduating from a master’s degree program this year. We haven’t made arrangements for graduation yet, because it all hinges on what he’s doing this summer and/or next fall. If he stays in NYC, we fly up. If he leaves NYC we drive up to move him out. If we drive up, we stay outside Manhattan. So we are waiting. Waiting for results of summer program auditions. Waiting for results of programs he’s applied to for next year. Waiting for several more pro auditions to happen. Waiting, waiting, waiting. I grow old waiting…

Stay busy. Sleep well. Whatever happens is now out of your hands, and all the worrying in the world won’t change it.

Sounds like the waiting never ends for the parents of musicians. My son is “sweating” out the wait by taking a vacation to sunny Mexico with friends. (I allowed since he worked so hard on scholarship apps and auditions). I am left to stare at the mailbox.
