Good point. Just to clarify further, the letter said nothing to indicate that D was on any kind of short list (she wishes!).

Bump... did anyone else get the same letter my D did? Northern Lights, I know you are very interested in the Carleton waitlist, did you get it?

I have not heard anything either. Carleton still is my first choice coll and I'm very worried and nervous about the result.......... I hope the international seats haven't been filled yet.....

Last I heard (middle of last week) the class size was sitting at 502 and they still hope to get it down a little lower, around 490.

I got the letter above, and called the officer last nite, and was told that only few people got that email. That's called "The Second Waiting List", which means that no more than 10 students, internationally, were offered a spot on the second WL. Don't know much about the domestic students tho, but the person I talked to told me that, the situation was pretty much the same, only few domestic students got that email. And I also got the information that only 1 international student was offered admission on the 1st WL.

Applicants who got the letter above, HANG IN THERE!

I'm from China, BTW.

Hmm, interesting. Are you saying that there were some admissions off the waitlist already ("WL 1"?). I have seen no posts anywhere on CC saying that anyone has gotten off the waitlist at all. But, of course, not everyone posts on CC. And then are you saying that those who got the letter (probably e-mail for international students) are on a "short list" now if they have openings?

I got that letter, and I also received an e-mail from and admissions counselor, who said that basically the class was full now, she said their target number was 490, with room for a few transfers. She said that the waitlist process may flow into june, if deposited students change their mind. Hoping and praying. . . has anyone else heard something? I find it hard to believe that the person on facebook got off the waitlist. . . as the letter we received said that they eren't able to offer a place to any students on the waiting list.

Did all waitlisted students receive this second letter or only some?

I got the letter that said the class was full.... :(

wait were we supposed to send them something if we wanted to stay on the wait list? oops

Yeah you were supposed to by may 26

I didn't get any letter...

I didn't get anything either. In fact the one and only email that I have ever received from Carleton is the confirmation email for my place in the waitlist.

And I'm from Nepal.........

I talked to someone in the admissions office to make sure they knew that I wanted to stay on the waitlist. This could go out as far as another month! I can't handle that . . . Transfer admission to Carleton is very competitive, each year only a handful get in out of 200 applicants. In a perfect world we'd all be able to go to college where we want, but alas it is not so.

Did everyone receive the second mailing regarding the waitlist or not? Especially domestic students, since it could take longer to get things to internationals.

I emailed Carleton and they told that they have sent a letter to me last week, but they forwarded it via email anyways since I am International ...It's basically a letter telling me that they wont be able to offer a place to me this year, as they have attained their targeted class size...So I guess those who have been offered to stay even now do have a chance of getting in! Best of luck to all...

Anyone hear anything? Call the admissions office to see if they are possibly turning to the waitlist?

My son got the same letter that Intparent mentioned on May 18th:

"Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer admission to any candidate on our Waiting List, as our freshman class is full.

It is my understanding that some of the colleges with which we regularly compete for students have recently admitted or may admit some students from their Waiting Lists. This possibility leads us still to have some hope that we will be able to make a few additional offers of admission between now and about June 30. Though I do not want to raise your hopes too high, that small possibility does exist."

Did everyone get the same letter and has anyone gotten any new news. Approx 600 WL spots were offered in the IVY's so the dominoes will fall. It is simply a question of when and where.

D hasn't heard anything yet. But as lunitari posted on 5/26, the class was slightly overenrolled, so I think they would need to get down below that 490 number before offering any waitlist slots (or if they got fewer transfer acceptances than they expected, then maybe that could open up a few spots). D is just enjoying grad parties and planning to start her summer job next week, doesn't seem to be worrying too much.

I still haven't heard anything. I received the same letter as above. What are you guys thinking? Any optimism left? I think if any activity happens it will be in the next week to ten days.

D got a letter from Carleton today. In summary, it says that because of the protracted waitlist process nationally, they may go out beyond June 30 with waitlist activity. Their class is still at capacity, with no openings, and they have had fewer changes to date than they anticipated. But they do know from talking to colleagues at other institutions that the other schools are still making waitlist offers that may affect Carleton's class. So it still sounds like they haven't taken anyone off the waitlist, but there is a thread of hope... They will notify her immediately by phone or e-mail if an available space occurs, and will write again in mid-July with an update. Sigh...

So I have a question for anyone who might have insight. The college she has sent her deposit to has sent info on their payment plan, and the first payment is due July 30. She also has a scholarship from a local organization, and they want to know by the end of June where to send the money. Obviously I will call the scholarship org and ask if they can hold the money until we know for sure where she is going. But once we send that payment to the other college due July 30, we wouldn't have any way to get that back, right? I will ask her guidance counselor and maybe call the college, but just wondered if anyone here knows.

Good luck to your daughter, intparent. I hope things work out for her with Carleton. ... My older daughter was waitlisted at Carleton two years ago, while her younger sister was accepted last year. Both were comparable in terms of grades, test scores, etc. Who the heck knows the how or why of waitlisting? (Older D is now at College of Wooster--and quite happy, I might add! Just returned from study abroad in Italy.) ... Just as an interesting aside, I heard that Maria Shriver got in trouble after Tim Russert's memorial service the other day. Russert's son, Luke, just graduated from Boston College, and in her talk, Shriver mentioned that her daughter had applied to BC this year and was waitlisted. (She'll be attending USC, instead.) Apparently the daughter threw a fit that her mother had announced to the world about her wait-listing at Boston C!
