IM on the waiting list for Hutchings...#36 for a class of ~300. There are 10 available spots as well. Will I get this class even this late in the game?

I have also enrolled in Givental...the reviews are quite negative of Givental.

That number, for the most part, does not matter. What's more important is your waitlist number in your section. Unfortunately, I haven't figure out how to check for that, except that when you first place yourself on a waitlist and select the section it tells you. But anyway, I think you have a good chance. It's a large class. And I would avoid Givental.

I've heard Scandanavian is easy. What I usually do though is look up a class I find interesting (that fulfills the prereqs), look up the professor, then go on ratemyprofessors.com. Usually the reviews will tell you if the class is hard or not.

it's math department policy to let everyone who wants to take a math class to take that math class, even if they have to stuff more people into pimentel. don't worry too much about it.

The Math Department will try to put everyone into the class until it is no longer possible to fit more people in the lecture. This happened last spring for Math 54 with Prof. Ribet.

Extra discussion rooms can usually be found for Math classes even if they happen to be in undesirable places like Etcheverry. The problem is that the lecture hall must fit the amount of enrolled students.

The problem with Math 53 with Hutchings is that they most likely can't move into a larger lecture hall since 155 Dwinelle is already one of the largest that can hold a math class. They can't switch into Pimentel because of the Physics 8 class there at the same time.

I think I know the one you're talking about...that classroom is huge. I can barely see the professor from the back, and I don't think it has that nice projection screen like Pimentel. Anyway, wouldn't they have trouble getting more GSIs? I hear math department is lacking in GSIs.
