Waiting List Poll

im going to decline the waitlist...right now i have a deans scholarship to university of rochester which is ranked 34 and BC is 40

not that ranking makes a school better, but i feel the two schools are pretty much on the same level and comparable even though BC is more prestigious

D will decline the waitlist. Waiting to hear from other top choices, and wants to make choice and get this over with in April. She was already accepted to UCLA Honors. Very surprised about BC really, but they rec'd so many apps!

Sorry you are wrong. Just because your daughter did not get accepted does not mean BC is OVERRATED! How can you judge a school that you never took the time to visit? It sounds like sour grapes on your part. Don't rain on the parade of all the kids who were accepted by BC and are thrilled. I'm glad your daughter was accepted to the school of her choice. My oldest attends BC and finds it a challenging program and has met a lot of great kids. My youngest received his wait listed letter today from BC so I can understand both sides.

Are my chances pretty much blown because of a slight drop in GPA in the third quarter?

My son was initally waitlisted 2 years ago. We sent letters and any little achievement he accomplished to BC. Called and spoke to the same person telling them it was still his 1st choice. Then it happened...the last of May..the envelope arrived and .....he was accepted. Of course we had to forfit the deposit to Holy Cross. Because BC was his dream school how could we say NO?

Hey Joesmom.. a few questions: Who did you send the letters to? The Dean of Admissions? Assistant? And who did you call? And what do you recommend me do to hopefully get a spot on the "accepted" list :). And yea.. I have the same problem (sort of) as your children. My brother is currently enrolled at boston college for the past two years now (he got into bc through EA) and I think it'll be awesome if I could go to the same school as my bro. I basically had the same stats as him but I was waitlisted :(.. so yea any tips would be great! (My bro had a 1380 sat, i got a 1370.. I have more leadership than him but he had an upward trend while my trend was more or less rocky and he had a higher weighted and unweighted gpa x_O)

Ok first we called and spoke to one of the admissions counselors. Get her name and be very nice. Reiterate how BC is your #1 choice even though you have other options. Then mail in your paperwork to accept the waitlist status. Write a note expressing your passion for BC. and mention how going to BC w/ your brother means so much. Make it personal. Then wait a week and call whomever you spoke to the first time to see if they received your letter. Again mention BC is #1 choice. Then if anything good happens to you( like honor roll at school, participation in a sport ( did you win?),any scholastic award, a newspaper article mentioning your achievements) make sure you write a note to the same person and tell them. Stay in touch in one way or another with the counselor at the rate of once a week. Only speak to her. It worked for my son because he established a rapport with the counselor w/o being obnoxious. She remembered him and later used her discretion in accepting him in late May. Better late than never.Don't get your hopes up too high. Try to get excited about where you may be attending.Good luck with the whole process. Maybe my son was lucky, who knows-but it can't hurt to try.

i'll send it in, but if i'm accepted later, i probably will not go unless i get a lot of money (which is doubtful)

i declined a place on the list, its too serious of a school for me, only realized after visiting, if they don't want me the first time around i don't want them the second time around. but good luck if you are.

whoa.. awesome thanx joesmom for the help.. I'll let u no what happens :D

I'm going to decline my place on the waiting list. I was planning to accept, however I was just admitted to ND today and will be going there in the fall instead. Good luck to all!

what have you decided to do?

My dream is to go to Boston (the city). I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go to Boston. I had expected/hoped/wanted to go there through Wellesley, but I was rejected there and waitlisted by BC. I'm going to try appealing to Wellesley, but I am not expecting a positive response. Thus, I really really really want to give my all to try to go to BC.
I know it's a small and long shot, but I just really want to go to Boston.

I wanted to say thank you to all the people who declined their position on the waitlist; thank you for being considerate of those who really want to go to BC. I know too many people who would not do so because they just want to know if they can score another acceptance when they don't even care about the college.

I have yet to submit my card, but yes, after a week of deliberation, my heart is set on giving my all toward BC.

lol, i've been waiting for someone to ask.

well, BC is my dream school so i decided to accept.

bc or gw??

I already put my name on the waitlist just to see if I could get in. It doesn't hurt. Plus, i'm a little depressed for being rejected from Cornell and Brown so maybe BC will accept me.

BC is one of the most unpredictable schools with admisisons, at leadst for me (got into hopkins, waitlisted BC)

I'm from Hong Kong. I really can't understand why ppl like go boston. It's so cold there. My dream school is USC or UCSD. I love the beaches in California so much. L.A./San Diego is a much fun place to live in than boston. But they rejected me weeks ago which makes me very very sad. I'm attending BC this fall b/c they offer me full tuition waiver and 23k assistantship. Hope I can have some fun in boston area

RealChimera, this was probably the wrong messageboard for you to say that you "can't understand why ppl like go to boston." Maybe some people enjoy the cold weather. And i know that many new englanders, such as myself, are used to the cold weather and really could never imagine a winter without snow. For you to say that you don't really enjoy the cold weather and the boston area makes people that DID NOT get into BC really sad and bitter, so, don't complain.

Furthermore, I don't think we need to know how much money BC gave you unless you have a financial aid question.
