Does anyone know anything about whether Wes will go into its waiting list, and if so, when? Seen the stats from previous years and they seem to take a few. Huge percentage increase in apps at other places (ex. Colby) but Wes didn’t seem to have much of an increase. Wonder hoe this bodes for the waiting list. Any insight is welcomed.
Where did you find stats for Wesleyan’s # of applications received? I’ve found Colby’s numbers publicly, but I wasn’t aware Wesleyan released the # of apps received as of yet. Wes ED numbers set a record this year apparently, but have you seen info on the RD pool?
smartalic34 - I have not seen anything official, but I have seen a couple of posts indicating that although Wes" ED pool was the largest ever that the overall apps increase was nominal (as opposed to places like Colby - 40%+ percent increase). Please do not take that as gospel. I do not have any information from the University - - but I would still like to hear anything - opinion or otherwise - about the Wait list - as my daughter currently resides there.
The waitlist will depend entirely on the school’s yield. The current seniors were an over-admitted class - Wes thought its yield would be lower that year so increased its acceptances, but it wound up overenrolling by about 70+ students (815 instead of 745), and did not go to the waitlist. Since then Wes has been more conservative to prevent overenrolled classes and has gone to the waitlist, at least a little, in the three subsequent years. The # of accepted students will be telling, IMHO. If below 2,300 acceptances, expect waitlist movement (unless yield differs drastically from previous years).
I’ve been waitlisted as well, and in my decision letter, I see this: "If we receive fewer than 745 acceptances from our initial offers, we will be able to admit students from the waiting list. " Is this implying that waitlist movement will only happen if fewer than 745 admitted students actually enroll at Wes, because that sounds extremely improbable. Not sure how to interpret this line.
That is precisely how to interpret it, but Wes usually admits enough to yield just about 745 enrolled, and there is usually waitlist movement most years. Some more than others, but Wesleyan usually accepts around 2,100 students and then another small amount off the waitlist to get a class of 745.
@smartalic34, Wow, the odds are definitely not in my favor. If they just need 745 out of 2,100, they just need 35% of their admitted students to say yes. And Wesleyan historically admits a few off the waitlist each year?
@saltana Yes, Wesleyan usually admits some students off the waitlist every year (my best guess is 20-40). One major factor driving this is potential matriculants getting off other waitlists. Let’s say someone accepts their spot at Wes but is on Brown’s waitlist. In June they get off Brown’s waitlist. Voilà, there is trickle down waitlist movement at Wes. Who gets picked off the waitlist will probably be influenced by the person that left the class (e.g. plays the same instrument, from x state, etc). Not that simple but you get the idea.
Does anyone know the number of acceptances this year, ED, ED2, and RD? Seen other schools releasing this info.
OP: today is the day. Wes now knows how many people accepted their RD. Soon, they will know how many of those kids accept Wait-Lists offers from other schools. Then, they will start filling those spots (if any) from their wait list, looking for kids with certain talents or abilities that really want to go to Wesleyan University. If you are one of these kids, it’s a good time to get in contact with band leader or coach or whatever in case admissions calls them. Good Luck.
Hi! I am a waitlisted student. I’m wandering if anyone heard from the school? Is it that Wesleyan is generally moving late on its waitlist?
'Most activity on the waiting list will take place in early May, once we have heard from all the students we have admitted. However, there is an inevitable “ripple effect” when other colleges go to their waiting lists and some of those who deposited at Wesleyan choose to accept an offer off the waiting list from another school. So, these waves can go on for quite a while (affecting fewer and fewer students) until the end of June. We do send a letter to all those still waiting as soon as we know that we will not admit any more people from our waiting list."
Hey. Has anyone heard from the abbreviated waitlist? We were told early June, correct?
Hey parnot, I guess maybe we need to wait till the end of June. I researched on some waitlist thread from previous years, and some lucky birds got off at the end of June.
I suspect we are going to hear back really soon. Do you know how many other students are on the waiting list? This is torture.
They just tell its a much much more smaller group. I actually asked the AO who is in charge of my area, but she is out for a while. I am waiting for her email by this weekend. Yes, this has been torturing, but this doesn’t happen to everyone. I mean isn’t it enticing to have a little drama in life? We are not on the routine!
Hey gracelucky, any news from your AO? Thinking of calling myself next week, but don’t want to jinx it!!
They probably will tell us the information by the end of June. It doesn’t hurt to wait for another week, since we have been waiting for two months now.
