I just got a letter from WP that said i was found fully qualified, but have been put on a national waiting list, and several hundred cadetships will be filled from this. I was wondering if anyone else recieved one of these, or can help me clear this up. Has WP already decided on the ones they want in already? seems kind of early

^^^^
The service academies always fill several hundred appointments from the national pool. The letter you received means that you were not selected to fill a congressional quota. Hang in there, you still have a good shot at an appointment.

Hi OReilly,

I encountered a similar situation, but I'm here to offer you hope.

Back in December, I only had a nomination from one of my senators. It turned out to be an alternate, because I was found qualified and waitlisted like yourself. I decided to talk to Maj Viles, my regional admissions director, and he told me about my place on the list and what I could do to improve. Although I had a good standing on the list at the time, I was persistent and I worked harder to improve my file.

In the end, I got a principal nomination from my Congressman, but I received my appointment before the second nomination was processed. Thus, they had pulled me off the waiting list first. I now have an appointment for 2011.

The point is that they have already started looking at waitlisted candidates and they are pulling. Don't give up hope and keep improving your file! You still must have a great shot if you are fully qualified. Just do your best and keep in touch with your MALO / regional commander.

Good luck on receiving an appointment!

Keep the faith. First off, congratulations on being fully qualified. Historically, only about 20% of applicants advance through the admissions process and become fully qualified. About 65-70% of the fully qualified candidates ultimately receive offers of appointment.

Quite a few appointments will continue to be offered during the next several months. Each year about 250-275 candidates receiving offers decline the offers. For many of the offers, the acceptance deadline is May 1st. After this date, additional spots open up. Whether these declinations open a spot for you is determined by the congressional district of the declining candidates and the number of declinations from candidates on the waiting list.

Good luck.

Again, I think the numbers above are good. my S was national wait listed in a very competitive district, ultimately was offered civil prep in June --after he graduated from HS. I tried to understand the NWL thing--one year it was said they took none (about 2 years ago) yet int he official regs it says they must take at least 150 ... Anyway, I think (though) i am not sure, that many of the 'required' NWL slots are filled essentially byt he LOA's and possibly athletic recruits etc ... just my guess.

SO advice, hang tough, my understanding is that they are are probably now getting into full swing. Secondly, develop a LEGITIMATE back up, other College/ROTC/open to civil prep-usmaps/ etc....

all the best

thanks for all of the help. I just got my acceptance folder! GO ARMY BEAT NAVY

Congrats on your appointment. I also have recieved my loa and my offer was mailed a few days ago. If you want to talk my AIM sn is kelschultz4

Hello, I was found fully qualified and put on the national waiting list about a month ago, but today I had my congressional interview and after all the interviews were done they announced that I received the principle nomination to USMA from my congressman.

So does this mean that I am guaranteed in now since that’s what principal nomination means? Does me being wait listed have anything to do with this now or does fully qualified + principal nomination = appointment regardless?

A big congratulations and hooah to all of you who have already received appointments! It's great to see that you're already talking to each other via im's.

tn48th: Being fully qualified with a principle nom sounds pretty darn close to an appointment. Watch your mailbox very closely.

You're probably able to figure out why we recommend bubble wrapping future cadets until R-Day. Take good care of yourselves, drive carefully, and keep your grades up this semester.

Tn48th: Congratulations on receiving the principle nomination from your representative.

While there are no guarantees until you actually receive the appointment, it would appear you should receive the appointment for your district as long as you are fully qualified.

Let us know when you get the official word.

if on our candidate website it says a district in our "Nominations Received" box, does that mean we were the principal nomination, or we received either the principal or the alternate position?

It could me either frogger89. It indicates that a nomination was received. Check with the nominating source, that's the only way to know for certain.

Congratulations on the nomination!

I also got a letter saying I am fully qualified to WP and everything, but the letter didn't say I was put on a national waiting list. I'm guessing this is a good thing, but I would like some feedback. Thanks!

Hey trump,

I got a letter saying I was fully qualified (not waitlisted) back in October, and I have two nominations, but have not heard anything from West Point. If you have a nomination, we are in the same boat and I understand that we could be waiting until April. It's very frustrating...

yea, i know what you mean. I've had a nomination since Dec. 24th and havn't heard a peep from WP.

O'Reilleyfactor---

congrats on your appt.,
how were you able to go from NWL status to being given an appointment within a matter of days?

my MALo just called to say I have been placed on the nwl. this was pretty disheartening, but i'm still hanging on to any hope. i'm just afraid I will be one of those who won't find out untill May and will have to be waiting that long.

well, after I got my letter I talked to the cross country/track coach, and he told me they were going over my app. that tuesday, and I got the folder in the mail that saturday. So, yeah that NWL letter was kind of strange. Best of luck! If there are any other questions, shoot.

all you people who are on the nwl dont worry. ive felt your pain. i just got pulled off of it and got a direct admission and i dont have like a 4.0 so keep ur hopes up guys

i got a letter today saying that I'm on the national waiting list. does anyone know how large the list is or where we can find our spots on it? Do you just send a message to your admissions team asking them? Thanks

soaring eagle: It's worth calling your regional admissions officer to ask him to give you an idea of where you are on the list and what your chances are. My son got in off the NWL in mid-May!!!
