Waiting List

So, eh.. :[ things don't look too good if I haven't heard a call?

basically.

the news article said the dean is aiming for 545 though.

You were supposed to say, "No Christm4sKitty, it will be just fine. Don't worry about it. You still have a chance!" ehzzzohehmg?

If Williams accepted 71 last year and the yield is lower- you still have a chance. Plus, Williams only accepted the first two batches off of the waitlist. Give it some time.

I think they have started working with internationals off the waitlist. Technically I am an international and I got a call last Sunday.

risa.ri.89, I have 2 "undocumented" students who have outstanding stats but are ineligible for federal financial aid. I've been told that they can apply as internationals, but that admission will not be need-blind. That is a problem as these families are dirt-poor. Any suggestions other than waiting for Congress to provide a path to citizenship? These kids were brought here when they were about 2 yrs old - not like they chose to walk across.

Are all of you folks who got off the waitlist girls? I ask because the yield was skewed towards boys and I'm wondering whether they are trying to make the class closer to 50/50.

I have a male student who was just notified that he's off the Williams wait list. He's an "underrepresented" ethnic and geographic minority.

When was he notified?

Actually Williams is one of the few universities that are need blind for international students, so they should be able to receive aid. There are also a lot of other universities who will give internationals aid or merit scholarships.

Nidachti, I believe he was notified May 9 or 10. He was expecting a call yesterday (11th) from financial aid.

He's a little conflicted. Was accepted at Colby, Occidental, ConnCollege, Allegheny, Skidmore, Whitman, and one or two others. Occidental and ConnColl tied on financial aid, and he chose east coast after visiting both. Now he has to decide again.

Note to any juniors - this kid had so-so stats but turned out a dynamite essay. He missed some of the Jan 1 app deadlines or he might have had more tier 1 offers. He's a South Texas Hispanic student who never heard of SLACs until I started working with him in November.

mathteacher:

Your two undocumenteds would apply as international students (non-resident aliens) and would be theoretically eligible for financial aid. The catch is that it may be difficult to provide the tax returns and documentation required to determine financial aid. I'm also not sure that colleges can enroll students without valid visas.

I think your best bet would be to wait a few weeks 'til the financial aid offices get through crunch time and call a few to get specific advice.

BTW, I don't think being "need-blind" for internationals makes any difference whatsover in the likelihood of a specific applicant getting financial aid. A lot of schools are "need-blind" for domestic admissions and still manage, as if by magic, to get the same high number of full-pay students, year after year. There is a box right on the application asking if you are applying for financial aid.

ugh. I'm hispanic ... but I doubt they care about that... I'm still on the wl.

Anyone accepted today/yesterday?

I don't think they'd be calling anyone over the weekend..

I bet they'll be calling more people this week, though, since the one-week-to-decide point has passed for those of us pulled off the waitlist in the first round.

Give that the application pack should take 2 days to reach those accepted, they should start calling around 16-17.

Btw, has any one of you emailed them and asked them about Waitlist recently?

I just got a letter from admissions. It basically said they look forward to reviewing my application again and that they plan on reviewing still interested waiting list candidates.

You mailed admission@williams.edu or the admission director of your area?

I mailed the director of my area two days ago and haven't still heard :(

Hey, guys what did you email to your Wiliams officers? Did you ask them about whether your applications were reviewed? Should I do so too?
