Does anyone know whether NYU sends thick acceptances and thin rejections?
Or does it vary? Mom wants to know what to be ready for. And will we really be waiting until April 1st?

last year, March 12, as it was a memorable day in our house, we came home to a thin envelope
with happy news. Daughter was invited to the event at Tisch for the accepted students, for April 4. The thick envelope arrived closer to April 1. I read on CC that not everyone who gets in , gets the early invite, so it may not mean bad news if the skinny one with happy news does not arrive in March. Good luck.

Most kids will hear somewhere close to April 1. A smaller number will get the invitation to the early April event which used to be called Saturday/Sunday in the Square and will hear in early/mid-March. This event is scheduled in early April so that they can ‘convince’ these students to choose Tisch and the invitations go out earlier than the regular acceptances so that people can make any necessary travel plans. NYU does these events for all of their different colleges. It’s hard for kids who hear/see others getting these early invitations but the reality is that most kids who are accepted are not invited to this early event, so don’t stress about that!

Great info
thanks

So it is true that NYU’s acceptance letters are large? That’s horrible I’ll know immediately haha!

The actual acceptance package is large. But the “invites” for the accepted student events that SOME get earlier (a few weeks before the April 1 admissions notification) are not large. It is simply the invitation to the event. However, that invitation implies an acceptance will be forthcoming on April 1.

The acceptance packets were (in 2008) in large white envelopes which you open to find a big, beautiful, NYU purple folder with all your materials inside. Best wishes to everyone! My D loves it at NYU Tisch and we hope all the talented students posting here get in, too, and love it just as much. :)

soozievt
That’s great info… Hopefully my D will have that fantastic news.

Do you recall how long your Ds audition lasted at NYU?
Probably not a good predictor + or - but they had my D redo one of
her monologues and then sat and reviewed her app and asked lots of questions. She was with the auditor for 18 minutes. Yes I’m crazy enough that I timed it.

Any words of wisdom MUCH appreciated.

NotMamaRose

feel free to lend your wisdom here too
Thanks

Last year, a lot of people posted in mid-March, both on this forum and the MT forum, about receiving their invitations to the Tisch accepted student event.

Given what I had read here on CC about the bulk of Tisch students being notified around April 1 (as opposed to a smaller number receiving a thin envelope earlier), I expected to see a second - and larger - flood of posts announcing acceptances at that time. But I don’t think I saw a single one. (I was paying close attention because my son’s girlfriend at the time had auditioned for CAP21, and as of April 1 she had not received a thin envelope and was still hoping.)

It made me wonder whether things changed as of last year…whether everybody now receives the little thin envelope before they receive the fat packet.

I do recall that the little envelopes were not all sent out the same day, but rather over a week or so, causing people to gnash their teeth upon learning that others had been notified, when they hadn’t been yet.

There was certainly a very large crowd at the actual accepted students event. I suppose Tisch might be concerned about the facilities being overwhelmed if ALL the accepted students were to attend, but surely there are always many who cannot make it for one reason or another.

I know that not all accepted students in 2009 received the March invitation. Two kids we know personally did not so I don’t think that there was any change in policy last year. We should keep in mind that the students who post here on CC are a small percentage of the kids who are out there auditioning and applying to these programs. Tisch auditions 2000+ kids every year and 500+ will get an offer. Most probably have never heard of CC. :)

Oh, okay, Alwaysamom. That makes sense. Thanks. I had been wondering about this since last year but never posted about it before!
