Waiting...

My admissions officer said that I would probably hear from the academy today with the official word. I think I'm going to go nuts just waiting. I've checked my Voicemail and email a million times, but still nothing...

"probably" is a killer. I remember hearing that word several times.

Good luck! I know how hard the waiting is at this point. You'll laugh about it soon.

Good luck - my thoughts are with you! The waiting is always the hardest part. Keep us posted...

"****,
Welcome to USMA Class of 2010...the Admissions Committee voted
you in today......but don't get too excited. I've still got to fight
your file through the legal review so hold back on your horses.
Congratulations. We will be talking more when I get a chance to focus
in your direction."

yeas.... :-D !!!!!!

the legal issue happens to be my one and only speeding ticket for going 70/55 so im not too worried

GREAT NEWS! Congratulations!

Congratulations!

thanks guys!

Awesome! Are you going to accept immediately when it's official?

Weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! How very cool is that!! Go get that appointment and keep your foot off the gas! You're soon to graduate from Ramen noodles to MRE's!!! YAY!! Keep us informed!! AWESOME!!!!!

mrgreenapple,

Congratulations!! Yours is one of the first this year. You and your family should be very proud. I have the same question as cougar: are you sure enough that you will accept immediately?

Immediately accepting: I'm not sure. I positive i want to go to WP but my unit is deploying in july. I applied this year because I thought I would have to go to prep and im going to be 21 in june so time was running out. Now that I got a direct admission, I'm going to have to decide whats right for me. They might not give me another appointment next year if I bail on them this year. I think a visit will help me decide. I just feel like I'm abandoning some that I've grown very close to.

Ramen to MRE's: Believe me, my body is already surging with preservatives and additives from too many MRE's. The new Chicken Fajita MRE is freakin awesome though.

My parents are very excited.

also, fitrace87 was the first to get an appointment, props given

Congratulations!! I'm sure if you asked your buddies in your unit what you should do, they would encourage you to accept your appointment. It's not like you're bailing from the Army - you're taking advantage of an opportunity to contribute to the Army and to your country in a different way.

Slow down or buy a radar detector!!!

Way to go, man! It's great to hear you got direct admission so soon. Keep up the good work...now's the time to start pushing the workouts!

Congrats mrgreenapple. If you want this, you should come. But from what I've seen, a lot of former enlisted people are very unhappy here. That's just what I've seen. However, one of my good friends is a Combat Field Medic, and he doesn't mind it too much. He does really well, especially in the combat club, Cav Scouts (I'm in that).

mrgreenapple,

Go for it if it is what you truly want. This is likely your chance to make a difference. The brass ring will likely not come your way again, if you choose not to grab it now.

Thank you for your former service and good luck in what ever you choose.

mrgreenapple, there was a lot written from cadets in a similiar circumstance as you are in, in the book "Absolutely American" by David Lipsky....if you haven't read it already, it might offer some valuable information....helping now, or getting more training to lead later, are both very valuable contributions...hard to leave friends, but you will be making lots of new ones and perhaps better prepared to lead and protect them going forward....so best of luck in your decision, and thank you no matter which road you choose! (a soon-go-be navy mom)

mrgreenapple - please don't beat yourself up over your decision. You're not leaving your pals to just quit on them. You're going on to help them by getting a great education and becoming an officer. Your group is probably tight enough, they'll stay in touch with you. You most likely applied because you had vision and a dream, don't feel badly for wanting to reach out for it now that its been offered. Dwelling on this will surely make it harder for you to move forward. I feel for you having to make this choice. Know its hard. But you're made of some tough stuff! You're Army with Chicken Fajita MRE's in your system!! Listen to those who love you best! So proud of you BUT you'll never get me to say anything other than GO NAVY BEAT ARMY! :)

Marines4me -

sent you a pm.

my appointment arrived at my parents house yesterday. Guess they worked out the ticket. I let my mom open and read it over the phone. She got so excited, I had to tell her to slow down haha. Seems a little more real now.

Great news! You've worked hard for the opportunity - I hope you take advantage of it. Good luck whatever you decide!
