Submitted my Wellesley app a few weeks ago and I’ve been tense ever since. Does anyone have any practical/beneficial strategies to help with calming anxiety about college? I am usually confident in myself but lately, I’ve been very on edge.
The best advice my pups were given came from an older cousin, who told them to just keep busy enjoying your senior year. Whether you are studying, doing your EC activities, reading for pleasure, volunteering, or just hanging/chillin’ with your friends, if you find your day is full you won’t have as much of an opportunity to be anxious about college.
This time of year they got busy planning / working on their school fundraising ideas - first week of November they always ran a bake sale with proceeds to support the local soup kitchen - kids got together with friends to make brownies filled with crushed leftover Halloween candies.
The waiting game is never fun, so focus on something that you do have control over.
Best of luck to you!
Thanks so much for this. I’ve been needing some time to myself for a while now, but my mom has been breathing down on my neck to work on scholarships and I feel just as stressed. Anyways, I’ll definitely start to enjoy what’s left of my senior year
Your mom is right - don’t neglect those scholarship applications. Working on them can help diffuse some of the anxiety about the college waiting game.
Here’s an idea - go Freak out your mom and tell her you appreciate her…and then wait for her reaction… Be sure to tell your friends how much fun it is, and tell them that they should try the same thing with their parents.
