Waitlist 2010

^Got the same email today.

@2Daswell: They keep your application for a while (I don’t remember the specific number), but you would still need to complete a new set of application if you are considering to transfer.

^ Thanks.

The transfer acceptance rate for COE is extremely low. :frowning:
http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000156.pdf

I assume people who received this email (and snail mail) are those who were kept on the COE waitling list till the end. Since COE sent rejection letters to some waitlistees on 5/22, it may jsut be a small number on the list till the end.

Anyone know how many received this? I hope this is sort of like GT or TO of other colleges but with a full application.

I got a letter by snail mail a couple of days ago that said i got a transfer option to Cornell for next year if i choose to take it. All i have to do this year at my current school is maintain B+'s or higher in all my science classes and a cumulative gpa of 3.3 while taking 8 credits of science, 6 credits of English and 6 (i think) credits of calc. And i called them for more information (which i strongly suggest doing if you get this type of letter) and talked to a counselor (about what classes to take, how the process works, ect. He even gave me tips on my essay.) and he said very few students got the option and if you fulfill the requirements along with submitting an abbreviated application (which he said was essentially a new essay), you have priority as a transfer applicant.

tanban, I got a transfer option to CALS and I intend to pursue this option. I too have made numerous phone calls to the Admissions Office to make sure I have all my i’s dotted and t’s crossed. I have never been given essay tips, however. Care to share?

@ Harrypotter1: Of course. The counselor told me to specifically address my interest in my major (but also discuss a change in interests, if my interests change). Also he said to talk about any activities, ect. that I do on my other college campus or extra curriculars I do. That was the jist of it. I think the main thing he clarified with me was the specifics of my major, which I feel I semi-serendipitously chose perfectly, because it’s dead on with what i want to pursue. I guess a tip if you want to call them and get them to give you some help with essay would be have them just talk about your major with you. They might drop a couple specific qualities that they look for in their students interested in that field, but yah. He also emphasized the point that just because we have the transfer option doesn’t mean it’s a guarentee, and the essay will be a major part in whether they take us for next year or not, so keep that in mind. I hope that helped a little bit.

tanban: “transfer option doesn’t mean it’s a guarentee”

It isn’t guaranteed because some people didn’t meet the requirements at the end and were put to regular transfer pool. Heard on this site that as long as you meet requirements you are guaranteed to be in.

Since you proved you are qualified through waitlist and GT (they just don’t have enough housing to host these qualified people they are interested in taking), it shouldn’t be too hard for you to make it. Just don’t party much in your freshman year. Best wishes and share your experience next year!

@2Daswell: Thank you so much! I really hope I meet the requirements(:

So, my major is environmental engineering which was offered by both CoE and CALS. I was given the same letter as you guys for CoE but, according to their website, CALS has a higher rate of transfer acceptances. Even if I get straight A’s at my current school and everything, which school should I try transferring into? CoE, the one I almost got into? or CALS which is easier to get into?

@marie2010: If CoE sent you the letter, I would probably apply to CoE. But one thing that may be helpful would be to get in contact with counselors from both colleges, explain your situation to them and act from there; that way you’ll give yourself the best chance of transferring.

@ marie2010, it will be a tough decision for you since Engineering’s acceptance rate is so low. But you don’t need to decide now, gather more information and decide before you apply. You still have more than 6 months to think about it. :-)

Have you received anything from the lady who sent email asking for reply? I thought she would have sent something through snail mail already…

@2Daswell and @marie2010: Have you guys talked to anyone from Cornell recently with updates, ect.?
