Although it is not yet May 1, I was wondering if there is a general assumption over whether waitlisted students can expect to be accepted this year. I think last year there were no acceptances from the waitlist. I don't if anyone has a contact at admissions and has a clue about what to anticipate?
Also, how and when could a waitlisted student expect to be notified if they are accepted, based on past years?

Hi! I was waitlisted too, and my counselor called my regional admissions rep. Last year, they made a mistake by “overbooking” their class (their yield was higher than expected.) So this year, according to my rep, they apparently accepted fewer kids so that wouldn’t happen again, making it more likely that they’ll have to go to the waitlist.
Fingers crossed!

And I’m not completely sure on this, but based on what has been posted here in the past, it seems that people were called in the days leading up to May 15 (the waitlist notification date Georgetown specified in the letter) and asked to confirm that they were still interested in attending. People then received calls back telling them they were admitted and/or received their decision in a letter.

It seems like they’ll notify accepted kids as early as the 3rd, but May 15th seems to be the date they notify everyone (rejects, accepts, extended waitlist).

Thanks for your responses. I am so anxious to hear back, so hopefully I hear sooner than May 15. Please let me know if you hear whether or not Georgetown will be accepting waitlisted students this year.

I’m so so nervous! I really hope that last year’s waitlist situation won’t be the case for us would Georgetown just call or email their students to notify them of their rejection/admission?

I think in general, acceptees were called and rejections were sent using snail mail (or email if you’re international). Not sure if that’s going to be the case this year though!

I see that is a generic email to all those that expressed interest in being on the wait list. I must admit having visited Georgetown, I was disappointed at the staff. My D and I went to the pre-professional counseling offices to talk to someone on the process they use and unlike ALL other colleges we have visited, we were summarily tossed out.

Time for Georgetown to send some of their receptionists to “Charm School”.

I am sure there will be plenty of people on CC defending the school, but I can assure you NO OTHER SCHOOL has treated us this rudely. Don’t shoot the messenger!!!

That’s interesting. I also talked to the admissions contact/counseling officer for the School of Nursing during my visit and he was very polite. I told him about my waitlisted status, but he still asked whether I had questions about the the program or whether I’d like to sit in on a few students. I said I definitely would if I’m accepted (didn’t want to get too excited – didn’t work). He even told me how I could always transfer if it didn’t work out for me and how waitlistees are given special consideration as transfers.

I’m assuming the person you spoke to was from the College or SFS, both of which receive huge amounts of questions compared to NHS.

I think the email indicates the waiting list may be consulted this year. I don’t think any confirmation emails were sent last year, the only year there were no acceptances off of the waitlist.

@skateme It was not SFS or NHS, it was at ICC an also at the UG advising offices. It could very well have been just a one off bad experience, but all the same it would help for everyone at school to know that they are ambassadors for the school.

I must give Kudos to our tour guide who was very very good and actually answered all of our questions.

So while we’re waiting…
Where has everyone put down their deposit so far?
I put mine down at UC Berkeley. I would most likely choose Georgetown over Berkeley if admitted though!

people start hearing back starting may 1st? that seems a little soon since the committee started their meetings on may 1st. i put a deposit at USC but if i get into Georgetown i’m definitely going!

I committed to UCLA! Wow, we’re all from California haha. If I get in I’m definitely going as well. I hope that people start hearing in the next few days, the wait is super difficult.

D has put down deposit at UC Davis and would take Georgetown in a heartbeat. The letter said, “Final decisions will be mailed by May 15”, at least that one wait list saga will be over by May 15. Yale and Duke to go!!!
