yeah, playing devils advocate a little bit, if penn filled \ 2400 out of 2500 spots in the class, that could be considered pretty full, but in reality its just another average year for the waitlist. Im gonna try to keep my hopes up. As long as theres one spot left in the class, theres a chance! :D

Article from today’s NYT on yields, including Penn.
Mirrors what is already known, but an interesting read nonetheless.

so combining this info with [2014 admits much like last year?s | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://thedp.com/article/2014-admits-much-last-year-s) , this is what we know:

Upenn Class Size ~2500
2014 Acceptances: 3,830
2014 Yield: 63%
2014 Class Accepting offer: ~2,413

Projected Offers from the waitlist: Im guessin somewhere around 87, or 3 percent of the total waitlist… just another average year for UPenn Admissions. Ya gotta ahnd it to Furda, he knows what hes doin :P

Good Luck Everyone!

^ The target class size is closer to 2400, not 2500. But there probably will be some “melt” of the initial yield when some who accepted Penn’s offer get accepted off of waiting lists to schools they prefer (or choose other schools after putting down deposits at more than one school), so I’ll be surprised if Penn doesn’t accept any applicants from its waiting list.

Im sure theyll take a pretty good number =] (tryin to keep my hopes up lol) Last year, Penn enrolled a total of 2,477 applicants so I was basing my numbers off of that. Any “melt” is just a bonus to me haha.

@shultzie92: Where did you find the number 2477? Did they publish that?

Upenns version of the common data set :)

Still, the target number is 2,400:

that “about” gives a nice little margin of error lol. either way, theres gonna be some waitlist action this year. hopefully its enough for us all to get in :)

Hopefully we will hear some news soon. Last year The Daily Pennsylvanian published the article about yield and waitlist numbers on the 15th May so hopefully some concrete numbers will come up soon! I never got any confirmation from UPenn or my regional rep
about receiving my additional materials (I emailed though) - anyone got some confirmation?

Just read this article on DP…
[Yield for class of 2014 remains steady | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://www.dailypennsylvanian.com/article/yield-class-2014-remains-steady)

Last year the preliminary yield was 63%, same as this year, but they ended up accepting ~100 off the WL. It makes little sense that they are only planning on accepting 10-15 this year…

I think youre right. (especially seeing as they actually decreased the number of acceptances from lasst year to this one).

The way Im reading that is that they are planning on taking 10-15 this week, witing to see how many students leave Penn in the “melt” of other school’s waitlists, and shaping the rest of their class afterwards. Theyre basically sending out the first small “wave” of acceptances this week. So at least we know that they will be going to the waitlist officialy now! :D

Aww only 10-15 out of the 1600 who stayed on the waitlist?! That’s like 1% acceptance rate… I think this is the first wave but usually isnt the 2nd wave even smaller than the 1st wave? Hopefully other people WL at HYP will choose those scholols over UPenn otherwise it isnt looking very good…

Did u get the 1600 number from somewhere or is that just a guesstimate? All schools have a different waitlist philosophy, so maybe Penn likes playin it safe early and solidifying the class later on in the spring? They already start taking kids from the waitlist later than everyone else, so why not be different with wave sizes too? :P

^It’s actually 1800 who chose to stay on the waitlist from this article:
[Around 60% accept waitlist spots | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://www.dailypennsylvanian.com/article/around-60-accept-waitlist-spots)

I shouldnt be such a pessimist i guess, hopefully you’re right shultzie :)

well thats just the average number, but its probaly pretty accurate… sorry, just the eternal optimist in me coming out :P

@pearling - I sent my additional materials mid apirl and called my regional officer a week later asking if they’ve received it or not. They pretty much confirmed for me on the spot.

Oh shucks. I called them and they told me that they don’t confirm. But they assured me that it was received.

Good idea… I didn’t think of that: contacting the admissions office to make sure they received my additional materials.

Lately, I’ve been very hesitant about speaking to the admissions office considering how busy they are at this time. Still though, I think it’s a very valid question.

shultzie, I really like your optimistic attitude!
I agree… I still want to have hope, too (I was placed on CAS’s waiting list), no matter how small Penn’s chance of using the waiting list gets (or hopefully, how large it gets…heheh).
