Hey guys, I've been placed on the Duke waitlist this year and I was wondering how many people do you predict/expect will get off this year.

Some basic info:

around 2300 people waitlisted (as opposed to 3300 last year)

3739 people accepted (slightly less than last year),Dean said he expects a yield in the mid-40 percent (yield was around 42 last year). However, I feel that it is a little optimistic to expect that considering the fact that a major reason for the boom in applications was due to the fact that more people are just applying to more schools as opposed to genuine increase in high school students.

They also took around 200 people off the waitlist last year.

Also does anyone know the stats for how many are taken off the wait list for both Pratt and Trinity? I know they keep separate lists and I applied to Pratt.

I have to be honest with you. I figure that less people would be removed from the waitlist simply due to the large volume of applicants this year. :(

200 people were not taken off the wait list last year. Exact numbers have never been released, but admissions pre-estimated that they would probably only take 60-80 people.

I’m sorry, how would that result in less people? also again, I think a large reason for the increase in applicants is that people are just generating more applications (instead of legitimately that many more people applying)

k10, is that 60-80 people for this year or the estimate of last year. Btw there are statistics for the waitlist, here…
[College admission statistics for the class of 2014 | TJMCOAA](http://www.tongjiyiren.com/en/node/182)

I’m pretty sure the 60-80 were those that accepted the wait list offers.

So that means that there were still at least 200 offers though right?

once again, I’m not sure. I’ve heard an admissions officer tell me a different number. sometimes the NYT asks for statistics and Duke will offer them generalizations. Either way, the wait list review was ridiculous.

The good news:[ul]
[]Duke admitted 235 less students overall.
[]Duke waitlisted ~1000 less students.
[li]There was a sharp increase in the number of college applications across the board, likely due to the fact that students are applying to more colleges. Students should, as a result, have more college choices and yield should be lower at many top-tier schools.[/ul]
[/li]

The bad news:[ul]
[]Duke admitted more ED applicants this year than last year (645 this year, compared to 602 last year). ED admits are essentially guaranteed to go to Duke, inflating the overall yield percentage.
[]Duke is aiming for a target class size of 1,705, down from this year’s freshman class of around 1,750.[/ul]

As much as I hate it, there are far too many variables to make any predictions. We just have to wait and see. :/

^ That pretty much summed it up perfectly, although the biggest variable remains that the yield of your particular region/academic interest/etc as they tend to substitute any lost cross-admit with someone closest to his/her twin.

Bump. Has anybody heard about waitlist movement yet? I know other schools have already started (check this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1129279-2011-going-off-their-waitlist.html) Heard anything about this years yield? In the past ppl have come off as early as Apr 28th.

^ Haven’t heard anything yet. I’m wondering if that Duke hasn’t gone to its waitlist is a bad sign for us…
