My daughter’s decision came in this morning (01/08) and she was accepted into CLA but waitlisted at Carlson which is really her first choice.
I thought I would start a thread so we can all post our waitlist information and if/when the students come off the waitlist.
Application date: Early September.
ACT - 28
GPA - 3.61 UW after first semester of PSEO, 3.54 unweighted post-junior year
Rank: One of the big sub-urban competitive high schools that does not rank
Course work: All honors and 6 APs by junior year of high school.
Currently Full time PSEO at local college (NOT at the U): Completed 16 credits this fall with GPA 4.0/4.0 and enrolled in 18 credits for the current semester. (The transcript was added to the admissions file a week ago, not sure if this was considered in her decision)
Extra Curriculars:
- Engineering Intern at a big local company; working on IT and Engineering related tasks since October
- Women Mean Business: Participated at a camp at Carlson past summer (2017)
- Speech Team: Competed since 2014 and have won many medals in various tournaments
- Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award: Awarded for volunteering over 250 hours at local hospital
- Minnesota Business Venture: Week long business camp at St. Cloud State University
- Member of the National Honor Society
- Dean’s List at current college (PSEO) for maintaining 4.0 GPA
- Leadership role in various activities inside and outside of school
- DECA member
- First Gen - born and brought up in MN
Even though she has excellent ECs and course rigor, her ACT and GPA probably dragged her down.
Couple options we are thinking: talk to admissions counselor, file a WL appeal form. Not sure when and how to approach. She really wants to go to Carlson.
Any pointers/tips/tricks to come off the WL.? Please share.
