Waitlist Acceptances

I called my area representative yesterday and was informed that no final decision concerning waitlisted applicants will be made until May 20th. So from now, every day could be THE day...
Has anybody already been phoned yet???

It would be from Monday on, since they can't admit a candidate and then call them back and say "sorry, we found someone better". They are also not likely to call on a weekend. Good luck anyway...

I called the admissions office yesterday, and they told me that they started mailing out letters informing waitlisted applicants of their status on Thursday. The man I spoke with said that everyone would find out by letter whether they had been accepted or not.

I think they start by thinning out the pool - letting people know as soon as possible if they are not going to be considered further. Then final selections are made from a range of what might be called "finalists" for filling each available slot.

it's like american idol
sort of

Will it be hard copy letter or will they email it also?

I hope so, at least for intls...This is seriously too much stress.

Do you think the "Final Committee Meeting" would make good reality T.V.?

(lights dim .... spotlight swings to kid squirming in chair, facing bank of grim interrogators...)

"Applesatyr ...... you're REJECTED!!!!"

i actually think it would ... so cruel

You may be right... all the riveting appeal of a public hanging in the town square!

reality TV is society's way of filling in the hole of not having public executions

ouch... use me as an example...
It probably would bring in viewers who want to know the mysterious and closely guarded secret of ivy admissions...which, (after the number crunching of thousands of apps) is luck, coincidence, fate, a good mood...even random.
Anyway, I'm not going to spend my next month worrying about it. It would be fantastic, but I'm sure that those admitted deserve it (or at least I'd like to think so).

You have the right attitude. Here's hoping your neck is spared!

good luck everyone!

Byerly:

You said they were first sorting out those who they know they won't ever admit. Wouldn't it be better then if I didn't receive any notification in the next few days? Would that mean that I am still considered for admission?

In theory, yes.

I was rejected from the waitlist. But, along with my letter came a personalized letter from a prof in the music department saying that because I was a junior he hoped I would apply again next year. Man from Harvard EA deferred to waitlist to rejection. What a ride-that sucked. It's ok: Penn =)

thatindiandude
you applied as a junior?

never knew you could apply as a junior.

Did you get your letter today (sunday) or are you just posting now? Anyway, the prof is obviously rooting for you, so best of luck next year! Are you going to transfer from Penn next year?

i know someone who applied as a junior this year (for harvard class of 2010, not 09) and was accepted. I was kinda surprised that they did this too, but apparently it happens.
