waitlist admission

this guy i know going to notre dame this august, told me that he read in a press release a while ago that no one on the waitlist got in this year .

is that true?, i would think at least some got in.

also, if it is true, does anyone know why?

thanks

I went to the Notre Dame summer program and there was a seminar on admissions and financial aid. It is true that ND didn't accept anyone from the waitlist. And that's because a higher number of students who got accepted decided to go to the college than the admissions office expected. So instead of having room for the waitlisted students, ND is faced with a problem of having too many incoming freshmen this year.

That is true. If you look at the thread I put together today, you will see a few threads that talk about the waitlist and what happened this last year. I was very surprised as well, but ND didn't take anyone from the list. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=212499

Thats a bit scary. Because when there's too many incoming freshman, you know what that means... the school puts pressure on the profressors to start weeeeeeening out the kids. Good luck everyone this year!!

If it was another school I would worry about that, but not at Notre Dame. Notre Dame really cares about keeping the kids it gets and making sure that they graduate in four years, so don't worry about that. However, I would worry that ND will be more selective this upcomming year!

"However, I would worry that ND will be more selective this upcomming year!"
that's what i'm worried about, irish! i hope the admissions rate doesn't go way down next year!!!

What they did after 2003 and what they will probably do again is they will be much more selective but will also waitlist a lot more students and see how things end up. Then, when they have lots of extra spaces, they will go to the list. Because of that, I don't think that they will be THAT much more selective but it may be harder to get accepted outright.

ooooh man, thats majorly scary. My chances were already slim... I can only imagine them now. UGH!

Even if you get turned down, there still are ways to go to Notre Dame. Don't give up yet but trust me, I know! www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer
