WAITLIST...and how to get off it

Hi guys.

Anyone have any advice about getting off Waitlist.

I’m currently waitlisted at my two top choices:

Wake Forest (I applied ED and was deferred)

BC

Anyone who is in the same situation or was in the same situation last year some advice would be much appreciated.

The good news is that BC appears to use the Wait List fairly extensively (Fall of 2003, 200 students were accepted from the Wait List in a Class of 2208. 9.1% of the Class came from the wait list that year.)

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=617678&highlight=Boston+College#post617678%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=617678&highlight=Boston+College#post617678</a></p>

Wake Forest doesn't seem to release their Wait List Stats, so I can't speculate on the chances there. (You might be able to get an idea of the chances when you contact the Admissions Office.)

But in either case, you need to let the College know of your continued interest. Any additonal information that would support your admission should be submitted.
Contact the Admissions office and let the Admissions Officer know that you would attend if they accept you. Stress why you would be a great addition to their College and how much you look forward to attending. Demonstrate your knowledge of their programs and let the "person behind the statistics" show thru. They will start going to the wait list right after the May 1st Decision date, so you should contact them right away, so they know you are interested.

Good Luck.

I sent them both letters (letters unique to both schools by the way, not just "cut and paste the same paragraphs, change the name of college to fit the destination of the letter" handiwork) explaining why I would like to be offered an acceptance there.

I also asked and got two of my teachers (who both like me pretty well) to write recommendations for me for both colleges.

We'll see how it goes in the next few weeks. I don't know if it'll "work" or not.

Well chances are at least one more spot will be opening at BC because I truly hated the campus. I live a few towns over, and it just felt so much like everything I hated about home. I'm sure if I was from California or Iowa or Britain I wouldn't have hated it nearly as much. Hopefully I'll get off the waitlist at U Chicago or my appeal will go through at Gtown, but if not, I'll prob end up at BU with a goal to transfer.
