Waitlist at Berkshire

Hello! I was waitlisted at Berkshire school for sophomore year (2017-1018). I know that they pull people off the waitlist based on what they need (e.g. 10th grade girl), and then they look at the requirements. I was wondering my chances of getting chosen (since not a lot of 10th graders go to prep school). The interview went really well, and the interviewer said “based on this interview you will be a great addition to the school”, my SSAT’s are in the 87th percentile (total), and my GPA is 3.8. IF they do need a 10th grade girl, what are my chances of getting in?

Please read the waitlist forum. It is really hard to tell if you can get in or not. There may be a chance that Berkshire doesn’t pull any kids from the waitlist. However, keep your chin up and hope for the best. Good luck!

I’m a current Berkshire student (underclassmen girl) and I honestly can’t say how high up or not you are on the waitlist. You had mentioned that not many 10th graders go to prep school, which in most cases is true, but at Berkshire the sophomore class starts out small (50-60 kids) and then doubles sophomore year. If you have any questions feel free to pm me  best of luck!

Hi, I was wondering what you meant it starts out small sophomore year and then doubles sophomore year?

Thanks for replying!

I would send an enthusiastic letter. Get you name in front of them again, and let them know how you will contribute to the community and hope for the best.

Thanks! Do you happen to know how many people get waitlisted at berkshire a year? And about how many people turn down the school?

@Katrina H - that means there are 60 in the freshman class and then another 60 new students are accepted as sophomores (doubling the size of the class).

Thank you! So basically there is 60 people in the freshman class, and around 120 in the sophomore class?

Yes, maybe even a bit more. A lot of kids apply as sophomores because they are coming from schools that go through 9th grade.

Thank you so much! Hopefully I get pulled off the waitlist, but obvioulsy htere is a Plan B that I’m okay with.

FA requirements may also be a factor. In general.

I didn’t apply for FA

Hello, so am a current Berkshire student and I know that there are a few that do get accepted off the waitlist… I know of many that are accepted later(after April 10th) or just before revisit day… there are 60 freshman and about 40 new sophomores every year… Good luck!
