I'm trying to switch out one of my classes with PLPT 1010. SIS says that the class capacity is 300, and right now there are only 255 enrolled. Why then is there a waitlist? I'm number 6 on the waitlist right now, so what should I do on Wednesday? Should I go to the class? Should I email the professor?

Just go to the class, bring a course action form. If the prof hasn’t manually added you by then, you can have him sign the form. It’s only slightly over one full day away… They have plenty of emails coming their way from their department, spare them yours and just talk in person…

The course action form has become obsolete. I tried to use it yesterday to switch a lab time and get into a different course. Both profs told me no go on course action forms they were told not to use them and to allow sis to do the work.

I did get an email from ureg today telling me I got my lab time changed but I doubt I will get into the other class since I was 95 on the list.

Skipblue, often this happens because once a class fills and the prof starts a waitlist, s/he doesn’t want other students jumping the queue and taking the empty spaces by registering online when enrolled students drop. So s/he puts an enrollment freeze on the class, which prevents any SIS activity, and then adds kids off the waitlist to fill the class back up again. Often though the prof will wait until the first class to see who shows up–some people get on waitlists and then are never heard from again. So it’s very important to go to the first class and let the prof know (verbally and by email) that you’re still interested. If you’re number 6 on the waitlist for a big class, you’ll almost certainly get in.
