I got waitlisted from Cornell
Last year, they admitted 0 from the waitlist. Did/Will they try to mitigate this problem? If not, what's the point of being waitlisted?
What are the predictions of the waitlist admittance this year? (class of 2015)

I think the last 2 years they have not admitted any from the WL. I guess if the yield goes down dramatically they may go to the WL. I think this is why they offer the guaranteed transfer too.

Cornell’s target Class is for 3,050 first-year freshman. In 2007 they had to admit 279 from the wait list to achieve that class size.

(** It looks like they forgot to clear the Wait List fields on the 2001 Common Data Set form, because it is highly unlikely that the numbers would be exactly the same as 2000. But that’s what they posted on the web site.)

when will we know if we get off the wait list or not?

Can someone tell me where to send updates for the waiting list?

My son just got notified that he is Wait Listed at Cornell (Engineering). However, he was accepted at two very fine universities that in my opinion as well as others (USNews) are of the same academic caliber as Cornell. Each school has their pluses and minuses as one might expect. After visiting each of these schools and touring their respective engineering programs prior to the submission of his applications this fall he placed Cornell at the top of his list (that is prior to Cornell’s decision day, yesterday --bummer day for my son).

My question is – how does being wait listed work? My understanding is that most schools, Cornell included, have a deadline (May 1?) for potential students who have been offered acceptance to notify Cornell whether they will be attending or not since they will be going somewhere else. Presumably, if Cornell (other schools as well) has determined that they have fallen short of their target enrollment number for the fall, they will go to the Wait List to make up the numbers. Going on past history, the chances of being selected off of the Wait List to being admitted is very low (not impossible but remote to say the least)

This is where I am confused (not too uncommon for me). What happens if a student accepts admittance to School A on May 1 and then is notified on May 7 by School B that he has been taken off the school’s wait list and is offered admittance to School B. Can the student then notify School A that he changed his mind and won’t be going to School A afterall. I realize that the student will forfeit any deposit that he placed with School A. Is the policy for being wait listed the same as the “contract” that a student signs with respect to Early Admittance (EA).

yes you will loose your deposit at the other school but thats it
