WAITLIST CLASS OF 2019 UCI UCSB

I recently got waitlisted at UCSB and UCI. I can not believe how competitive the UC’s are this year! Does anybody know how the waitlist works? They say that the waitlist is not ranked, but they obviously have to some method as to who they offer admission to first. Would anybody know the number or percentage of people on the waitlist that got into UCI under business administration or into UCSB under Pre-Financial Mathematics and Statistics. Any stats or information would help!!! Please I am so nervous, I can’t believe that I was waitlisted for both considering how there aren’t that many people that are waitlisted. I was sure I would get into AT LEAST one. Also comment if you got waitlisted and under which major please (: And good luck to all of you who got waitlisted, I hope we all get in!!!

The waitlist is one of the worst social institutions, to be sure. Right alongside the DMV. Niche.com has some information on how many students are admitted off of the waitlist for most of the nation’s universities, but they are not specific to major programs. Unfortunately, UCSB admitted no students from their waitlist while Irvine did not report their waitlist information. Fastweb.com also has some great tips to get yourself a chance to move into the admitted bracket for waitlisted institutions. They basically follow three important steps:

  1. Market yourself with e-mails detailing new developments to the Admissions Office. (Not all the time; only every now and again).
  2. Don't try to reinvent yourself in the second semester with hopes of moving into that admitted bracket.
  3. Stay the course in terms of academics and applying for scholarships.

Good luck!

thank you @wdmanlyfanboy ! Did you get waitlisted as well?

Indeed; I was waitlisted at UChicago.

Waitlist acceptances from last year:

You need to accept a spot on the waitlist and follow any instructions provided by the schools.
You still need to SIR to another school until your decision and then you can choose to accept the waitlist and forfeit your enrollment deposit at the original school and pay another deposit at the new school or not accept the waitlist decision.

@xcsoccertrack‌ what were ur stats? i also got waitlisted at UCI and am surprised at the UC"s this year. I had a 2130 sat score, 3.75 UW gpa, but graduating high school with 69 college quarter credits (through dual enrollment).

@finallyfree I have a 3.611 unweighted GPA 7 AP classes, 2 Honors classes. 1760 SAT score. Attended a business entrepreneurship camp. President and founder of a club, director of finance for National Honors Society, and director of publicity for another club. AP scholar. Voted Most Athletic, and I was on homecoming court. 4 year varsity for cross country, soccer and track and two years of being captain for xc and track. Over 100 community service hours.

yeah, the only reason i think we got rejected was becuase of our gpa’s. i notice that UC’s place the highest emphasis on GPA… and with the budget cuts and increasing applications to the UC’s, i guess our GPA’s seemed to be below average.

I was waitlisted at UCSB for undeclared in L&S. Its so nerve wracking, I want to know if theres a possibility to get off! Hopefully we all do!

Waitlists are terrible, but they can work. I SIR’d at UCI, then got in to Davis a few weeks later. I don’t recall what I wrote in my letter of continued interest…and never received any stats on where I was positioned on the waitlist or anything.Knowing how competitive everything is, I wouldn’t bank on getting in, but put off depositing on housing or other costs at your safety schools for as long as possible just in case.

Good luck getting off the wait list! My son SIR’d elsewhere (and he’s also on a waitlist at a school, so we understand your anxiety) so there are now open spots at UCI and UCSB.
