Waitlist Class of 2020

Share your stats. And general discussion of the waitlist status.

I was waitlisted before I was recently accepted with a 3.65 GPA and 30 ACT, but I also had tons of extra curriculars

@reda8399 Really? I thought they do not accept anyone of waitlist until after May 1st which is the common deadline for paying deposit.

I think @reda8399 meant that he was deferred first

out of state
3.8 GPA unweighted
2150 sat

In the past, they offer wait list to almost as many as admitted students and around 1/3 of them accepted to be on the waitlist. Nevertheless, only a very small fraction got admitted at the end and it varied a lot from year to year. Last year, they also offered guaranteed transfer in sophomore year.

oos, ACT 36, 3.7, Prez of 3 clubs, Sat ii’s 800’s, lotta ecs. michigan is my last hope and it really blows

35 act 3.6 gpa 7 APs Prez of 2 clubs good essay in state. Don’t apply the day before if your not the strongest applicant lol. I think I would’ve gotten in had I done early decision :frowning:

Is anyone writing an essay or such to send to their admissions counselor to try and push their case more?

@ottobot85 I sent an email to my regional counselor to ask about waitlist and show my interest. She replied and said the waitlist is not ranked and “we are not asking for any additional information at this time”.

@kk2508 thank you! So my best bet would be to just wait it out?

@reda8399 what extra curriculars??

@ottobot85 I am waiting it out as well, and I really think there is nothing we can do. Last year (or the year before), if I remember correctly the acceptance rate from waitlist was just over 2%. But UMich’s yield has been going up and they had problems with over enrolment so I have this feeling that they might not take anyone this year. Anyways make sure you have paid a deposit by May 1 to a university that you have already gotten acceptance from.

@kk2508 ugh, that is not what I want to hear :frowning: I have a backup plan already, but I really want UMich. It is hard for me to just accept that they are not asking for additional info - it’s hard to say if that is just like saying “you are not required to but you really should send more stuff”. I really want to send an additional essay just because I feel like the worst they would do is ignore it.

My son was waitlisted, which was surprising to us. Out-of-state; 2190 SAT (1500/1600), 32 ACT C (34 super-scored); 4.0 UW GPA and 4.72 WGPA (most rigorous courses school offers 4 AP and 2 dual enrollment); Pres. NHS; Varsity football and track (captain); Rank 1/62; State Scholar; great ECs and essays. Visited the school and wrote about his visit in one essay.

We viewed UMich as a strong match/very likely. I suspect that his applying near the deadline with strong credentials may have been viewed unfavorably regarding his probability of matriculating if admitted.

Will be attending Notre Dame.

lifebreath, better choice!

@ottobot85 have you been requested any new information?
Has anyone else been requested any new information?

My daughter is waitlisted. Looking for news…any update on the waitlist…

@teal99 I have not heard anything. The chances are slim because they their yield is increasing and they had over enrolment problems in previous years. Good luck.

35 ACT, 800 math level 2 - striking out everywhere
