@ethellou maybe you applied to late?
Probably, but not past the deadline. Sucks.
@ethellou my son has the same stats you do with a 4.3 GPA, AP classes, and a lead builder in robotics…etc. He applied early decision in Oct…first he was deferred and then waitlisted at the end of March. So it’s not cause you applied too late…it’s just u of m’s admissions. He was disappointed, but is now looking forward to going to Michigan Tech. He was accepted to Purdue but their OOS tuition is too much money! Good luck. I’m sure you’ll be happy with where you end up going.
I just don’t get how somebody with his quals doesn’t have a red carpet rolled out for him. Btw, his grades beat mine.
Did all of you send letters of interest if you were initially deferred?
Is anyone aware of ANY person being admitted off the wait list for fall 2016?
Just got off the wait list at VA Tech. With a 35 and 800 math, I have no idea why I was on the list there.
UW-Madison has been accepting kids off waitlist today. Still nothing from UMich? Anyone?
Nothing.
Nothing.
Yeah, I sent in an enquiry email, (along with a couple of updates), and although I know they must be busy right now, it’s been almost a day now, and a quick response about the status of the waiting list would surely have helped. I guess we’ll just have to wait. UMich is one of my top choices, and I really wish they could be quicker with the decisions, as the wait is literally killing me right now :))
@blazedragon were you deferred initially as well?
Nope, I decided to apply via regular decision, so that I had more time to write better essays, but nevertheless, UMich is still one of my top choices, among most of the schools I applied to, as it holds a good mix of all that I need from a university: Good ranking in my intended major, significant amount of aid provision , and a regional preference too, as I have family living close by; a definite plus point for an international candidate like me.
The only reason I believe for my application being pushed to the waiting list was a miscommunication between the admissions office and me, which almost led to them canceling my application on the basis of “incomplete information”(They have a different procedure for considering the transcripts for international students, especially because our pattern is quite different, and they didn’t inform me about it until the last moment) . :-L Although that matter was sorted out, the delay that it might have caused probably harmed my chances, and that’s what makes this waiting so unbearable :((
Nothing?
@ethellou Nope, Michigan has been totally quiet since so many days…Either they somehow had a really high yield (which I believe would be highly unlikely, although I expect the yield to be higher than last year.), or they are still processing how many seats they are left with, before contacting the waitlisted candidates, which I think could be the matter.
I haven’t received a reply yet, regarding my updates and queries, but then again, it’s weekend now, and I am not sure if they would reply anytime soon. Also the fact that the first week of May is a busy time, replying to queries by waitlisted candidates is probably not too high on their waiting list.
Having said all that, I believe that UMich should buckle up, most other schools with similar conditions as that of UMich are already rolling out their waiting list decisions, and delaying that would not only be torturous to the students, but would also lead to most of the waiting list candidates going elsewhere, which, if it occurs on a large scale, could actually lead to incomplete filling up of seats at UMich. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing something next week, as waiting for decisions is just tiring.
Its been almost 7 months…
@kk2508 Damn…They really shouldn’t be waitlisting students who applied early. Like, it would be better if they just gave you a concrete decision (an admit would be perfect :)) ), but they really shouldn’t make you guys wait that long. I have been waiting since just a couple of months, and I already am feeling uneasy and kinda frustrated…So I can only imagine how much annoying this waiting list position can be for you.
I hope we all get the decisions soon, UMich really needs to be quick, because I guess, most of you guys have already got offers from a few of your decent safeties, so it would just be the loss of UMich if they delay your decisions.
I am an international student, and the places where I did get admitted haven’t provided any financial aid, so UMich is like one of my last hopes :)) So let’s see.
Okay so I did send essentially another short essay explaining why I wanted to go to Michigan since I did have some changes in what I wanted between the time I applied and now, and my admissions counselor said he would include it in my file. The wait is excruciating however, even though I know it’s unlikely to be admitted from the waitlist. Does anyone know if they’re going to accept any OOS from the waitlist?
@kk2508 I feel you. I have been waiting for ten months now and it is killing me. At this point I wish that they would just reject me that way I can be put out of my misery.
