Waitlist Class of 2021

@momtojoss you are most certainly not an ignoramus! : ) I totally understood your dilemma. Many of these schools have an academic acceptance that is separate from an artistic acceptance, so like you I would wonder if on a waitlist for a school to which your child has an academic acceptance are you expected to commit to the school on the chance you come off the waitlist after May 1. One would assume that if you came off the waitlist for an auditioned program after the May 1 date you could commit at that point even though the deadline for the school commitment had passed, but I have found in this process it is never safe to assume anything! I would definitely consult with the school admissions department to make sure what their policies are in these situations. Best of luck!

My understanding is the same a @sopranomtmom but agree I would call the school and ask. It frankly can be a confusing system especially with different emails coming from different schools and some of them really come with a “do or die” urgency about committing, housing, visit dates etc. I went through this with 3 and still found it was hard to not get caught up in that frenzy especially with WLs involved. You do need to commit to the other choice if not off the list but you can wait till the last moment to do that:) The housing deposit is trickier but try and not worry about which dorm you end up in. That all tends to work out and shift around over the summer anyway. Worst case scenario is you do lose the deposit if you come off a WL after May 1 but luckily most schools really do try and let you know before that deadline.

@Onourown well said!

Thank you all so much! I feel better and not as frenzied. It’s been such a crazy ride…

@momtojoss Hang in there! Good things are coming…there may be a few more twists and turns in the road, (or those corkscrew upside rollercoaster things), but things are going to come together soon!

@momtojoss - for your own peace of mind, you may want to call or email the WL program and clarify their policy. I do not think you have to commit to a school for which you are wait listed for a program. Especially if you wouldn’t choose to attend there if you don’t come off the WL for the program.

You do need to commit to one of your current acceptances by May 1 if you want to insure you have a place to go to school in the Fall (just in case you don’t come off your WL). You certainly can wait until the last day to do so. Don’t commit until you have to if you are still waiting on information from others.

As has already been said, if you come off a WL after May 1, then you have a choice between staying at the school to which you’ve already committed, or choosing to attend the school whose WL you came off. Just be aware it could result in losing some deposits at the school to which you originally committed. It just depends.

By contacting your WL school now just to confirm how that process works with their particular program, besides giving you peace of mind, It also gives you all another chance to let them know you are still hoping to come off their wait list if a spot should become available. Always good for them to know!

Thank you @Onourown! I am definitely ready for it to all come together! And @vvnstar I will email the admissions office just to make sure. We are prepared to eat whatever deposits we make at the other school if that’s the path my daughter chooses. I wish I could make the choice for her…we would be done! :>

@momtojoss and others – it is definitely worth contacting the school of choice should the waitlist not come through, and ask them if they’d be willing to give you a short extension period before paying the deposit. We did this last year - it was a little easier because the WL school gave a fixed date of something like May 6 by which they would notify you, either way - but the school very kindly gave us a one-week or so extension. Proving it never hurts to ask.

Also ask whether not committing by may 1 will affect your scholarships and financial aid.

Carefully copy and paste the LAST list AND these instructions. Add your name/info (in alphabetical order) under each school where he/she is waitlisted so that is appears in red. Update when (1) Released from WL, (2) Accepted off of WL, or (3) Sent notice that he/she is no longer interested. To color it red, copy the code as it is below, add in your information, then REMOVE THE SPACE IN THE FIRST BRACKET BEFORE THE WORD “COLOR”:

@Mardeen YAY!

@Mardeen I’m so happy for you!!!

YAAYYYY @Mardeen!!

Congrats @Mardeen !

Thank you, everyone! I’m just so thrilled for my D!

Has there been lots of movement on any of these waitlists?? We are hanging in there but it’s hard…trying very hard to look at what we’ve got and make a selection and move forward. Unfortunately our top waitlist pick has given us three times the scholarship money as the other schools…and she can’t go there because she is only on the waitlist! The other schools are quite expensive so this is really killing us…

Most of the movement will likely be seen after the 1st. So go with her best option/fit in hand and see what happens. My D was hoping to get off a waitlist last year, but didn’t end up happening. It “seems” there is a little more waitlist movement this year than last.

@singoutlouise Has your D emailed and called them to ask questions to let them know of her interest? My D did that. I don’t know if that helped my D but I told her if she was professional about it that it couldn’t hurt.

I would like my D to email the wait list school but in the email they said do not contact them via email or send them any other info, so we are patiently waiting…Should we contact them anyway? Don’t want to be annoying

None of our waitlisted schools had those specific directions. I have never heard of a school saying that. Based on that info - if anyone is familiar with that particular school maybe they can chime in. For the schools where we are on the waitlist my daughter sent a letter thanking them and confirming her continued interest - after that you have to just sit back and wait.
