Waitlist Class of 2021

I believe there’s a story here somewhere of someone (a girl I believe) who was waitlisted on her dream school but as time passed, she effectively closed the door and was all in on the school she committed to.

She was packed and ready to move (I think it was a day or two before move in … I’d like to say a day, but that might just be my memory making it MORE dramatic, but I know it was really close) to her new school when she got a call from her dream school that there was a spot. And she took it.

(I believe the dream school was Western Michigan … but I’m not 100% anymore.)

But yeah … there’s lots of stories of kids switching gears at the very end.

I keep hearing rumblings of waitlist movement since May 1, but haven’t seen anything definite. Anyone getting off the MT lists…or hearing of those who are? Just curious!

@momto2artists haven’t heard anything yet. Just the few posted on here Waiting for NYU and Syracuse movement, but if not my D. is happy to be at Elon I think you are waiting on NYU too. Do you know if they track interest?

@momto2artists my D came off the Wagner WL on April 19th - they want to yield a class of 33 and had about half that number as of the 19th - so they started pulling off the WL - My D knows several kids - both boys and girls that she met at the Wagner audition that have also come off the list.

@kaf011 Yes, my D is on the NYU Tisch waitlist. She’s thrilled to be headed to CCM, so it isn’t a huge deal. But, we are curious what the offer will be if she comes off - it will need to a good one to make us reconsider. I don’t think they track interest beyond that original form they requested applicants submit to confirm their desire to stay on the WL. In fact, they seemed very adamant about NOT contacting them with any additional information or appeals. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Update on the NYU Admissions blog posted yesterday says this:
"Now that May 1 has passed, it appears that while we met our enrollment goal for the Class of 2021, we do have some capacity to accommodate additional offers of admission, with the understanding that not every student who has confirmed their intent to enroll thus far will actually join us this fall.

As a result, we will move forward with extending roughly 325 new offers of admission sometime on or after May 10. Students offered admission (and financial aid if applicable) will have 72 hours to respond to their offer of admission."

And:
“Finally and most importantly, please do not send us any additional recommendations, emails, updates, or other materials regarding your space on the wait list. At this time, we can no longer consider any new information whatsoever. We have all the information we need to make our final selections. I will provide another update later this month. Thanks in advance for your patience.”

Good luck to all who are waiting. It will be interesting to see how many of those 325 new offers are from Tisch.

I’m completely confused…if they met their enrollment goal how can they have 325 new offers? And this is schoolwide or just for Tisch? That seems odd.

It is definitely school wide, not just Tisch. And they met their enrollment goal but that isn’t necessarily their full capacity so they are taking 325. That’s how I read it anyway.

Since there are nearly 6000 in a class for NYU total - if they are only taking 325 off the overall wait list it might not be very many

I think that history dictates that a certain percentage of students who accept the offer at NYU (school wide) do not actually begin. The 325 is making up for that expected population.

Any movement off Emerson waitlist?

@ginja17 theres a girl in our class (I’m in MT21 at Emerson) who came off the waitlist on like April 27. Other than that, I don’t believe so

thanks @WTXMom for the update on Tisch. I tried to go to website and couldn’t find anything about wait list

Carefully copy and paste the LAST list AND these instructions. Add your name/info (in alphabetical order) under each school where he/she is waitlisted so that is appears in red. Update when (1) Released from WL, (2) Accepted off of WL, or (3) Sent notice that he/she is no longer interested. To color it red, copy the code as it is below, add in your information, then REMOVE THE SPACE IN THE FIRST BRACKET BEFORE THE WORD “COLOR”:

@kaf011 - go to admissionsblog DOT nyu DOT edu (posted that way b/c CC doesn’t let you share URLs) and you will see the update I shared…they typically post those updates periodically as the summer progresses.

They also responded to one of the questions on the blogpost re first year admissions waitlist:
“In response to the questions above, roughly 15% of our applicant pool of more than 67,000 were offered spaces on our wait list. By May 1, roughly half of that 15% responded that they would like to remain on our wait list.”

S did not apply but did audition for a well regarded program in November - he got an offer this week completely out of left field after the national deadline! We had no knowledge he was on a WL at any time for this program. A month ago it would have been a contender with very competitive tuition and quality  and closer to home. So I guessWL are moving… :-S

@bexsky26 I didn’t want to “like” your post, but I did want to acknowledge it. Yikes - would have been helpful to know that you were on the WL. Hope you guys can navigate this unexpected turn without much frustration. Hugs.

@bexsky26 Would have been nice to know for sure. But still hoping (for selfish reasons) that he is still excited about attending CCU!

‘After the national deadline’ doesn’t mean it’s too late to make a change if the program is appealing.

Anyone heard of any NYU Tisch waitlisters getting notices? Hoping some may be in that “325” number…
