I have a friend who has been waitlisted for a Freshman Position at UW Seattle. If she was to be accepted to the UW, and take summer quarter at a CC, how would that work? Would she need to re-apply to the UW or does she just need to send the transcript over. Is even possible to take classes during summer quarter at a community college?

She would send a transcript.

Quite a few people actually take summer classes at a CC (usually closer to where they live) and then send the transcripts over to get credit. It’s a lot cheaper that way, too.

Thanks for the info!

hell, you can take community college classes while attending UW and send the transcript over.

There was a guy in my cc spanish class that was a UW student…was taking the language classes at SCCC to save $$$

So one can take a class over the summer while at home after attending, too?

travelgirl is definitely right. Just remember that you can only transfer over a certain number of credits to UW.

momto4squirts: Yes, definitely!

For example:
- A friend of mine took courses at a CC after graduating from college in the summer.
- Then he took 3 quarters (a normal ‘year’) at UW.
- Then he took another quarter at a CC …
…repeat 2/3.
Now he’s graduating a year early.

The only problem with taking summer courses is that if you’re going into engineering or a field where future employers will love to see hands on work or internships, most students spend quarters interning or doing a co-op to gain industry experience. Some students also do research over the summer, which is pretty much a full time 40hr/wk summer job.

You can take night classes, but you’ll be really tired after work/research. Doable, but would not recommend, especially with a cs internship.

Wow. Thanks for this information, SS. :)

Yeah, I guess the only problem is that you can’t receive Pell from two colleges simultaneously. It’s one of the conditions… State Need grant is fine though.
