So today I found out I was waitlisted via Gibson. I received the following message:

"fter careful consideration of your credentials, the admission committee has decided to place you on our waitlist. We will conduct a final review of your application in the upcoming weeks. We have all the materials necessary for this review, so you are not required to send any additional material. You will be notified of the committee's decision no later than June 1. "

Yes, the 'A' is cut off. Also, I never received the e-mail to formally accept a place on the waitlist. I'm kindof shocked I was waitlisted. My stats are high for Tulane.

Tulane is my first choice, so perhaps I'm being deluded by hope, but is there any way this could be a mistake? What should I do?

Tulane is your first choice; did you apply EA?

if not, why not? If yes, were you deferred first and now waitlisted?

Either way, rather than telling us on CC(and fallen chemist) that this is your first choice, make sure the admissions officer that represents your state knows…

I continue to be shocked by students who say “Tulane is my first choice” yet they wait to apply RD when it has been shown every year that applying early not only gives a higher chance of admittance, but also gives highest chance of merit money offer…

I know, I hate myself for applying Regular Decision. I actually wasn’t particularly interested in Tulane until my visit in December with a friend. It was then that I really fell in love with it, did the research, and saw that EA was the way to go. By then it was too late.

I totally agree with gabby. You should tell your admissions counselor EXACTLY what you said here about not really “discovering” Tulane until rather late in the process, but also add substantive reasons as to why you think Tulane is the school for you. Not things like “the campus was so pretty” or whatever, but things that matter. Not that there is anything wrong with a beautiful campus!
