Waitlist Conundrum!

This is the first week of classes, and I found out that it's more than difficult for me to understand my current Math 54 prof. I checked out the first lecture by the other 54 prof, and want to switch over to his class. Unfortunately, it seems like both class discussion sections are full - is it risky for me to drop my current 54 class to wait-list myself for the other 54 class? (the discussion section I'm trying to get into has 0 on the waitlist currently, but I'm afraid if I drop my current class and the other one doesn't open up, I might not have a math class at all...)

Thanks for the help!

Anyone know anything? I’d be extremely grateful for any advice.

Bump please!

I have heard different things regarding waitlists. Some say that as long as you are in a section you are guaranteed in the class. Others say its the other way around (I don’t think this is likely, though). The one factor I’ve heard that has held a lot of value is if you attend the first section. If you don’t attend your assigned section, they drop you from the class. IN your case, you might not b let in at all.

Your best bet would be to talk to the GSIs or professor of the other class - something you have hopefully done. They can give you a better idea than anyone here can.
