My fellow waitlisted friends. This actually sucks.

I'm an international student from an island called Mauritius and I am so waiting for a [positive] answer from Williams. Since waiting alone sucks, we might as well talk. So, let's talk about what we did to boost our chance, how we harassed the Adcom, and why we want to go to Williams. I would so love the exchange.

By the way, anyone with some news? Are they using the waitlist this year? Any mail received on this matter?

I’ve harassed the adcoms and sent in another film of my athletic exploits. Williams is my first choice - I applied there ED, got deferred, and then I got waitlisted RD. However, I’m set to attend a place I would really like to go, so I won’t be devastated if this doesn’t work out.

Do you know how many spots are open? I really think Williams should send us an e-mail or something to tell us how many waitlisted ppl they can take in…

I actually did nothing but just notified them I am going to stay on the waitlist…

@Kajululu: Really? Where are you from? Where will you be going, given you are unlucky with Williams? @Drought:You’re going to Carleton, right? That’s soo cool.

I don’t think Williams actually knows how many seats are open and I doubt they would tell us anyway. I guess some people will be rejecting Williams even until end of June, given they get off the waitlists elsewhere.

From past stats, we have a 0.5 to 30% chance of being accepted and in waitlist threads from previous years, people were even accepted as late as mid june. Arrg, this is killing me.

If I’m rejected from Williams, I’ll be attending Bristol University in England. It sounds sooo boring :(

Hey guys here is another international on the wait list, this sucks I was rejected in ivy leagues and wait listed at grinnell and Williams I called grinnell yesterday and the dean of international admissions told that it has unlikely that they will take someone international out of the wait list I fell like everything that has happened in my life the last couple of months is a failure, I wanted to go to harvard and I moved from South America to Boston by myself when I was 17, it was horrible, sometimes I didn,t have money to buy food, the winter was even worse and I knew no one in town, however I entered in a harvard extension curse and my life was better I felt like i was working for something important, as the time went on I spent all my saving I a had to find 2 jobs and I audited 2 classes at harvard college, it was freaking hard to live that situation but I made it, I lived a whole year all by myself And a crappy 60 year old roommate, and all t

All for nothing I had to wait all night to hear from harvard because there was a problem with hotmail accounts, and the next day I found out I was rejected, It was hard but I was happy that I was wait listed at Williams and grinnell, then I called the office at grinnell and the dean told me there was a possibility to get a scholarship, but yesterday he told me it was not possible, right now I don’t have a college to go to and I guess I will have to go back to my country and study in a college there, sometimes I want to cry and I feel like all I did was in vane, I worked so hard and now I have to go back, it really sucks, I hope Williams send us an email saying wether they will take people or Not,I think at least we deserve it, anyway good luck to all of you I hope any of us can make it :)

Thanks Hurtlocker. I guess I’m not the only one stalking College Confidential and Williams Record, like everyday.
@ esdienti: Dude, that is so courageous. I could never have done something like that. Respect man and thanks for sharing.

So according to the article, there might be a [good]chance that they take some students off the waitlist. Somethings around 15 students. Goodluck to everyone.

Wait!! I didn’t understand, are they going to drawn from the wait list in the case of internationals or not?? I didn’t understand the last part!!

@ Feanor: thank you, I’m so glad you created this thread!! because I not feel alone in this process, we all can we thru this grueling wait together :)

@Feanor: I am from China and I’ll be attending Pomona College. Yay:)

So I emailed the admision office two days ago and they told me they are not sure about how many waitlisted students they are able to take at this point as they are still waiting for replies from the admitted students.

By the way, Williams’ financial aid policy is kinda confusing to me now; Are they starting the need-aware policy towards internationals next year or this year? I asked for aid, so I wonder whether that will affect my chance of getting off the waitlist.

esdienti: I’m sorry this last year has been so tough on you, but I believe that things happen for a reason and nothing we do in life is a waste of time. These experiences help us to grow stronger and make us who we are. It was not meant to be at Harvard and maybe not at Williams, but that doesn’t mean your last year was all for nothing. My daughter is waitlisted at Williams that’s why I have been checking this blog, but if she doesn’t get in it wasn’t meant to be. I did not get into my first choice college and neither did my husband. We both went to a school that was not tops on our list, but had we not gone there we would never had met and now we’ve been married 23 years. Don’t be so hard on yourself, it will work out. You will get through this:)

That actually made me feel better too. Thanks threegirls
I think we all had a couple of tough years, each in different intensity, but tough nonetheless.

Anyway, for the 150 or so waitlisted students stalking this thread, I found an interesting article on Williams.edu.

@threegirls: Thank you so much for your comment, I have been telling my self that everything happens for a reason, and it was not supposed to be, and I’m completely over the fact that I didn’t get into Harvard, but the thing now is that if Williams says no, I would have to go to college in my country, and I have been working so hard that it seems unfair that I didn’t get anywhere, I look at my common application, the finacial aid application, all the supplements, the essays, it was so stressful and hard, and I it seems like it was all for nothing, I hope I can get thru this quickly and, I also hope that Williams can give us a quick answer, I know it’s foolish but after all I have been thru, I don’t want to give up until all my schools say no, and it’s hard, my parents get mad when I start talking about the possibility of getting off the wait list because they say they don’t want to see me down once again, but I guess I’m a dreamer and people like me live to dream and work to see if something kicks out!! anyay thank you for your comment it was very sweet of you. :)

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE WAITLIST??? ARE THEY TAKING INTERNTIONALS?? OR ARE THEY HAPPY WITH THE PERCENTAGE THEY ALREDAY HAVE???.. I’m freaking out!!! this waiting is killing me, It is like torture!!!

Ok guys I got some piece of information to my fellow wait listed!! I sent an email to the office of admissions and they answered it (extremely fast, I love williams office of admissions) saying that there is some activity on the waitlist right now and that it should go on for the next couple of weeks, so I guess we just have to wait… but the good news is that I found this article [The Early Line on Admission Yields (and Wait-List Offers) - The Choice Blog - NYTimes.com](The Early Line on Admission Yields (and Wait-List Offers) - The New York Times) it says that Harvard would take 65 to 75 students from the waitlist and I’m sure some of them will be already be matriculated at Williams since many people apply to both!! so here is me being positive!! good energy everybody and good luck!!! :)

Thank you JohnAdams for the information, I think we have talked in several other threads… Thank you. I just wish that guy were international… looking at that Princeton thread it seems like they haven´t offered an spot to any iternational, hopefully they will offer and spot to an international who is already matriculated at Williams, and so we (internationals) can fill those spots!! :)

esdienti, I will cross my fingers and toes for you.

Last time I did that, a kid who was waitlisted at 6 schools was about to take the year off, then…bang…he was accepted to Harvard and will start this fall semester.
