Waitlist decisions need-blind?

Hi everyone!

I'm a waitlisted applicant at Dartmouth. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not waitlist decisions are need-blind? I'm an international student (living in US) asking for financial aid and I'm starting to think that may be my aid application had to do with my waitlist status (I asked for almost full aid). I've already sent in a letter of interest, recs from teachers and my interviewer but then, I realized that maybe it's also a good idea to send in an update to the admissions saying that I won't need as much aid as before (maybe just half). Can anyone shed some insight on this? Thank you very much!

omg… u are in the eact same situation as iam … international in US needing full aid

u know that the competition for ppl like us ( the hybird) situation is harder right? cuz we compete against both pools…

yeah money has alot to do in this year… I haven’t seen a tougher yr for international… too many rejections this year

i think ur proposal above will be awesome… just write a letter of explanation about the change in family condition…

im not an international so i dont noe if this will help but i got in off the waitlist and i got full aid so im pretty sure its need blind

^^^ where should I send the updated financial aid information to? the financial aid office or the admissions? is it a good idea to send a copy to my regional rep officer?

Hmm well I know D is needblind for all (including internationals) during admissions, so I’d say that’s not the reason they waitlisted you. As far as if they look at need once on the waitlist… not sure, school’s generally don’t release that kind of thing, but updating that could not hurt I’d assume, if nothing else they’ll just regard it as a non-factor, at best a positive for you.

Waitlist is need blind.

yeah i asked them and got the same answer… but we never know… decision for internationals always based on too many factors to count… like they can’t accept 10 or 30 students something from the same countries even though all of them are good… if they already accept someone from ED, then chances might be exhausted… asi said, no one knows… it’ all depends on policy f each school… if u 're European and there tons of European already at the school, oh well… same goes for asian, and others…

Need blind means that your needing FA (whether it is $1 or the whole cost of attendance) or you can afford to pay full freight is not a factor in the admissions decision.

Dartmouth will meet 100% of your demonstrated need regardless of what cycle you ere admitted.

100% needblind for internationals… i requested for aid after getting accepted and i had my needs fully met. i wouldn’t recommended filing your FA late though.
