Waitlist decisions need-blind?

Hi everyone!

I'm a waitlisted applicant at Harvard. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not waitlist decisions are need-blind? I'm an international student (living in US) asking for financial aid and I'm starting to think that may be my aid application had to do with my waitlist status (I asked for almost full aid). I've already sent in a letter of interest, recs from teachers but then, I just realized that maybe it's also a good idea to send in an update to the admissions saying that I won't need as much aid as I did before (maybe just half). Can anyone shed some insight on this? Thank you very much!

No, Harvard is need-blind. I have a Korean friend (she is from Korea) and she received need-based financial aid from Harvard last year.

At least some of the offers off the waitlist are need blind. That’s not to say that there might not be a very wealthy person that gets someone off the waitlist.

The only time money makes any difference in the application process is when your father is a DONOR in the terms of $500,000+, not including your tuition.

I suppose the process is technically “need-blind,” but a big, timely donation will raise eyebrows.
