Yeah, I am still very interested in Carleton. I called the office of Admissions yesterday and it seems as if the decisions will be made next week.

Hopefully I'll gave a good shot, I sent them another recommendation, my resume, and a personal letter saying that if i am admitted, i will enroll.

If all else fails, i still have my backups at UW-Madison and GW!

I got an email from somebody called Linda in the admission office a couple of days back saying that they havent even decided whether they will be admitting ppl off hte waitlist.. lets hope they do..

no..ill just reproduce exactly what she wrote:

Dear Radhika,
Unfortunately, we have not made any decision yet as to whether or not we will be able to make any offers from the Wait List. We will inform you of any decision as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued interest in Carleton.

I don't know, from the sound of the letter, I have a feeling that if they do accept off the waitlist, it will only be a few individuals like maybe 4-10ish. It's gonna be really tough.

2005: 310 placed on waitlist, 0 admitted
2004: 273 placed on waitlist, 8 admitted
2003: 272 placed on waitlist, 8 admitted
2002: 394 placed on waitlist, 10 admitted
2001: 1397 placed on waitlist, 0 admitted (neither is a typo on my part though I suspect the 1397 is how many were offered a spot on the waitlist, not how many accepted, which they do distinguish in later years)
2000: 16 waitlisted students admitted (no info on how many were on list)
1999: 118 waitlisted students admitted (?!!?!)
1998: 0 waitlisted students admitted

The incoming class in 1998 was massive, about 60 more than they aimed. Therefore, they didn't let as many people in in 1999 and instead used the waitlist pretty heavily. 1/4 of the class coming from the WL sounds about right -- a bunch of my friends were WL kids.

hmm.. so nobody admitted from waitlist this year.. so what exactly did the letter say.. we have two conflicting interpretations of the letter right here..

(May 16) "It is my great pleasure to offer you admission to Carleton College's class of 2010 and to name you a John W. Nason Scholar. Your application, superior record and the enthusiastic recommendations written on your behalf convinced the Admissions Committee that you will not only do well here academically, but also make substantial contributions to student life."
