Waitlist decisions

yeah they went over about 30 people. but one of the people from a different school, on the same podcast, said that if they have extra room is certain majors, some schools accept a few more to fill those spots.

also, sorry, but what is HYPS?

I don’t know if the extra room for majors idea will work for Rice. I think they will shoot for a more “perfect” class rather than slots in a program since people’s intended majors change over time.

HYPS = Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford

Shougan, stop trying to work out the math. Gosh, waitlist threads are even worse than chances threads.

This goes for all of you.

You’ve sent in your letter of intent, right? Then stop worrying about it. Stop thinking about Rice. When people ask you where you’re going to school, do you say, “____, unless I get in to Rice off of the waitlist.”? Stop doing that. Now’s the time to get excited about whatever school you’re going to. If you get into Rice, then you can stop and think about it. But in the meantime, it’s unhealthy for you to be holding out hope that you’ll get it.

Consider the college admissions project over for yourself. Then if you do get in to Rice, it’s an even better surprise.

Well said

Sorry if I tried to quantify the chances a bit too much. There is no more that can be done, but to wait and perhaps update the Rice Admissions Officers on any new achievements.

Any waitlist activity out there? Any news? July 1 seems like a long ways away…

Today must’ve been my lucky day 'cause I got a call this afternoon and now I’m one of less than 25 freshman in architecture! Super excited!
Best of luck to the rest of you out there :)

Congrats!

And now anxiety shall ensue for the rest of us :</p>

I called Rice today, and they said that waitlist notifications will go out on June 1st, they did not say how they will come out.

Hmmm…yeah, I had posed the following to them a few days ago: “Do you know how many are on the waitlist and how many spots will be offered?” and the lady said that she did not know at this point. I then asked what the notification was that we are supposed to receive BY June 1st and she said that it will be information stating just what I had posed. Perhaps it’ll just be a “Thanks for your interest; we currently have X enrolled and will be notifying applicants by July 1st.” I feel that we’ll be waiting through June.

Waitlisted S was accepted in Arch on May 15.

Is June 1st the date to inform first-year applicants, or does it also apply to transfer students who applied to rice?

Transfers I believe are on the same waitlist - and I’ve only heard of architecture students getting off thus far.

@uneasy4now: That’s so cool! I’m in arch too and the lady that called me on like May 12 said she was only calling two people! So your son must be the other lucky waitlist person  It’s so weird how we’re all connected (sort of) through CC. Is he definitely attending Rice and, if you don’t mind me asking, where was he going to go if he didn’t hear from Rice? I withdrew from USC to accept Rice’s offer.

spongebodge: Congratulations on going to Rice! My s switched from Cincy to Rice when notified of his acceptance. Still waiting for the package to arrive in the mail.

Congratulations to the two students that got in off the waitlist in architecture!

I got my Rice waitlist decisions (YES THEY ARE OUT!) - And I have been placed on the extended waitlist through the month of june… The time I got it was 10:22 pm

pvtejasvi, were you informed of your waitlist decision via phone or email?
And another question, is anyone here a transfer waitlist?

via email

THIS IS WHAT IT SAID:

Dear ______,
In April, we requested permission to place your name on the waiting list as an alternate for Rice’s class of 2013. We were pleased by your positive response and I am writing to update you on our current situation. Since May 1, two students have been offered admission from the waiting list, and at present, the class is full.
It is our intention to release the waiting list by July 1, 2009. To update us on your current desire to remain on the waiting list for the month of June, or to withdraw from it now, please reply online with your login id by May 30, 2009.
Thank you for your interest in Rice and best wishes for the summer.
Sincerely,

Julie M. Browning
Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment

Was everyone offered a spot on the extended waitlist or are they letting the current list naturally melt?

i have no idea whatsoever - it was sort of a surprise for me to find this email in my inbox this morning at 7 am

two people offered so far xD
oh wells.
