Hey i just got that waitlist email the priority people got a while ago. I was just wondering if this is a good sign for admissions? Btw...I checked the first one.

Yeah, I think it's a good sign. I checked the first one and got called the next week. Still though, expect the worst and hope for the best.

Best of luck!

any other non-priority waitlisters get the email?

i got the e-mail and i wasn't priority wait list. i was offered admission around a week later.

idk about priority waitlist. It didn't say so i guess no. It said "alternate" and i got in and got the email as well.

I got that e-mail today.

what email is this?

it was an email of intent i think

Here's the text of the waitlist email:

"The month of April was, no doubt, a whirlwind of activity toward finalizing your college plans. We are pleased that you accepted our offer of a place on Rice's waiting list. As we assess where we stand with the Class of 2010, we wanted to hear more from you on where you currently stand. Please respond to this email by checking one of the options below.

_____ Rice remains my top choice and if you offer me a place in the class, I will definitely enroll.

_____ I am still very interested in Rice and I would seriously consider enrolling if a place in the class were offered to me. Please keep my file active on your waiting list.

_____ Please withdraw my name from the wait list.

If you choose to remain on the wait list, rest assured that our wait list selections are need-blind and need-based financial aid is available for all who qualify. All merit-based aid has been expended. However, if you are a National Merit Finalist and you listed Rice as your first choice, you would be eligible for one of these awards as long as you haven't already been awarded a scholarship from another source.

Please respond this email (riceapps@rice.edu) by May XX, 2006."

Since this is non-binding, it's a no brainer. Choose the first option and get the offer. You can turn the offer down if you don't want to go to Rice but at least the decision will be in your hands, not theirs.

i got that email like ages ago. why are some people getting it earlier than others

errr..did you get called yet? Which one did you check?

any calls yet?

hhjl87- hey, ppl on the WL threads have been saying that the rice admissions office is calling people in rounds (one round lasts about 1-2 weeks), but not necessarily calling priority waitlisted kids first. people already got called as early as the end of april, and called applicants were only given a week or less to make their decision. by doing this, they're controlling their yield (say, if an accepted candidate off teh waitlist chooses not to go, they always have another round of people to call just in case. much more efficient than say, calling all the kids they want in one day, only to have them all deny.)

keep in mind this is just a theory though... i could be wrong

Oddly enough, you are very close to the German term for "good luck": Glück.

acutally thats whwat the woman at the admissions office told me. they do like rounds every 2 weeks or summin. but yea no call yet

any calls yet?

None here.

Well, I finally received the call today. I'm not sure yet if I'll accept, but it's certainly an enticing opportunity.

When did you receive their e-mail?

I got it in late May.
