Waitlist for Class of 2016

Anyone else waitlisted?

yup
i was waitlisted :(

I was too. Did any of you have trouble filling out the online wait list form? It wouldn’t let me enter the state I am from.

I am actually surprised I got waitlisted! I got waitlisted to Rice so I assumed I had a solid chance at BC since Rice is more selective. I had a 2240 superscore, 2180 highest single score, 3.9 UW / 4.5 W GPA, ranked 6/540, and OK extacurricular. My EC was a littttle on the low end of average applicants, I believe, but it wasn’t much and I was sure my scores and grades would compensate for the small gap.

I’m pretty surprised I was waitlisted by BC, too. Judging by the message boards, the admissions decisions seem to be all over the place, don’t you agree?

I mean, I was accepted into GW’s Honors Program, which only accepts 100 freshmen each year from their 2,400-strong freshman class. And into Northeastern’s Honors Program. And was named a Presidential Scholar at BU. Hmm.

Yes, I would blame needing financial aid (we make 60kish) but BC is need blind. I feel like my accomplishments are quite good in relation to where I am from and my income level. I am really not sure why I didn’t get accepted…Rice, I totally understand (I was expecting a rejection), but I am confused about BC. There’s really nothing that I can pin my waitlist decision to, but ah well. I guess that’s how college admissions go. It seems I am destined for University of Texas Austin…

Really? Financial aid would be the issue, you think? My thoughts didn’t even turn that way. Though I’m in the same income bracket. Strange.

Actually, GW ‘accepts’ a lot more than 100. Many/most of those honorees go elsewhere.

But, to those still desiring BC, search the BC thread for posts by scottj, who has excellent suggestions for a ‘Why BC?’ essay which you could send as a letter of disappointment and continued interest. Address it to the person whose name is on the wait list notification - it should be your regional rep.

Good luck.

Thank you for that info! The details about the Honors Program at GW are a bit scanty.

Thanks for the advice. I’m not that interested by BC anyways, I’m still a bit mystified though. Like, all of my stats are on the high end or above their “averages”, etc. Oh well.

Also was waitlisted for Northwestern…sigh…mind you, Northwestern is FAR more selective than BC.

I’m not sure if financial aid will be affected by being on the waitlist or not. They said it will be “based on availability”, so it might be.

I’m mystified too. I’m not feeling entitled, per se, but it doesn’t make sense to me. I accepted the waitlist offer but if I’m accepted from it, I will only be going if the financial aid offer surpasses offers from other schools.

Any of you having problems with the online wait list form?

waitlisted to BC… thought i had a good shot
4.04 gpa, 31 act

it seems like my college decision is a true test of patience!! i was deffered from brown in december, and now i’m probably gonna have to wait until may! here’s to hoping for the best! i still believe

and sethhg yeah my waitlist form wont let me enter state or country!

Tpatek I’m hoping they resold he issue in several days!

Waitlisted… 31 ACT 4.1 GPA not that surprised… but unfortunately BC was the least competitive of the higher end schools I applied to, so I hope I still have a chance at Tufts or Emory.

@xcloudy I think i might be destined for UT also.

I wholeheartedly echo bluebayou’s recommendation to search for scottj’s “Why BC” essay.

Do be careful about flooding the admissions office with communication. A friend of mine worked for many years in the admissions office in two top-20 schools. She said it’s best to limit updates to only “new information”, provided on a single page, and provided only by the student - not by anyone else. Your mileage may vary.

Here is a pointer to a valuable wait list thread from last year. While it’s on the Columbia University forum, it’s message is universal.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1121583-what-waitlist-all-your-questions-answered.html</a></p>

Good luck getting off the wait list, but given that there is so little in your control for getting off the wait list, it’s time to focus on your “plan B”.

Exactly. Only NEW information and a pithy ‘Why BC?’ essay to help make the sale.

if you have the ability to afford BC I wouldn’t get overly concerned about being waitlisted with the credentials a couple of you are reporting…my D was accepted to BC EA but rec’d zippo in financial aid so we’re into the financial decision part of our process (we were completely surprised by the 0) and have multiple good options for 65% off (75,000 Ohio State vs $215,000 BC)…so there is at least 1 opening…we’re just having trouble getting past the BC option as our daughter would’ve loved and flourished at BC but she’s going to excel wherever she lands and that school is getting 1 gem of a student/person.

That’s how you’ve got to think about it, @rekkav! Yeah, it would be the financial aid that’s the problem at this point.

I don’t think I’ll be putting my name on the wait list, 1) because BC was never one of my top choices, 2) because I’ve been accepted at other great schools for me, and 3) because I doubt BC would give me considerable financial aid.

Also I doubt I’d be able to wait that long to find out. Realistically, what is the time between putting your name on a wait list and knowing whether you’re in or not?

I got accepted off of the wait list around the 13th or 14th of May last year

It depends on yield and how many deposits are submitted early. Colleges may go to their WL in early May, in mid-May, or even in June to address ‘summer melt’; BC will finally close it out ~June 30.
