I'm waitlisted number 18 for sociology 1. The limit for the class is 320, there's 132 enrolled and 188 available seats. What is the possibility I can get the class?
Also, if I'm planning to major in stats and since math 1a is a major requirement and I required to take this class if I passed out of it from ap testing?

The general rule of thumb is that 10% of the class limit will clear the waitlist - for Sociology, that predicts a position up to about 32 on the waitlist has got a good shot to get in.

The math department grants credit for Math 1A based on passing the AP tests. [Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations - UC Berkeley Department of Mathematics](http://math.berkeley.edu/courses_AP.html) A few departments, but not statistics, have their own separate rules for what score constitutes an acceptable substitute. As long as you have at least a 3 on AB, you don’t need to take it. [Advanced Placement Examinations](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/faq/ap.html)

Nothing on the statistics department list of prereqs identifies any restriction on using AP credit in lieu of taking Math 1A. [Statistics Major](http://www.stat.berkeley.edu/94#Prereqs)
