Hi everyone,

I was waitlisted for Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences, and I hope to be admitted in May. I plan to write a letter to Cornell expressing my interest and intention to enroll (any other tips? I do not have new grades since i applied). To which address should I send the letter to? Handwritten or typed? EMAIL or letter?

Thank you very very much. I am extremely anxious

Typed. Letter. Explain your reasons for wanting to attend Cornell in full. Tell them that you plan on applying to transfer to the school if you do not get in off the waitlist. Update them on your senior year activities and current academic interests. It will help if your interests are in something like medieval studies or cultural anthropology.

Have your guidance counselor write a letter as well. Anything additional you can send (picture of you at Cornell, or wearing Cornell gear) will help. Best of luck.

Out of curiosity, did you apply for a secondary college as well at Cornell? Or only Arts?

hey caguya, no I didn't apply for a secondary college - CAS only. Thank you for all your help. Who should I address my letter to?

Presumably, 'To whom it may concern'.

I've talked to a couple of admissions counselors at Cornell and they are surprised at the relative lack of students using the secondary college option, especially students who applied to Arts and for whom Cornell is their #1 school (which seems to be your case).

For any student interested in math/science -- both CALS and Engineering are great options. For any student interested in the social sciences -- HumEc and ILR are great options. Biological sciences -- CALS, HumEc. The only thing that doesn't really work is the humanities -- but even CALS and ILR can work in that capacity (ILR offers philosophy and history courses, CALS offers anthropology courses).

And then, of course, all you would have to do is apply as an internal transfer your first semester.
