lowermorelandmom--FIVE WAITLISTS!!! What is her alternative or safety? Did she get accepted for the spring anywhere? Well, here's what I know... UMD admissions was to be meeting soon to pull from (if they can) their waitlist. Students will ONLY be notified if they have been offered a place, by June 1st. (if they are not admitted, they don't get any notification.) Oh...and they do their waitlist by in-state and out of state....Admissions has to see how many they can pull, based on I'm assuming, where the people are from who ARE NOT attending. Not sure who has the advantage in that in staters or out of staters....In 2003 & 2004, the students heard around the 3rd week in May...before Memorial Day. There have been some differences in waitlist numbers posted, so I'm not sure what is right. According the the web, last year they only let 180 in for from from about 2500.....BUT, to me that seems low b/c we talked to many people in our travels about the Md waitlist, and they ALL had friends who got in off last years waitlist. We're in WV, so we know no one really at UMD and I've talked to at least 25 students who either got in off last years waitlist or had a friend get in, so who knows? Maybe your d. should call sometime next week to find out if admissions has met yet about this. Best of luck to her....the waiting is awful. I sympathize with you.

Ok..here is an update for all waiting to hear from MD about the waitlist...FORGET IT! Final numbers aren't in yet, but they are "over" enrolled and will probably NOT be pulling anyone from the wait list....ESPECIALLY if you are out of state. There may be slots that open up later in the summer, but expect to get a letter June 1st releasing you from the wait list.....plan b, right?

Where did you get the info?

From a high up in admissions. She called me in reference to a coach's email about d. waitlisting status. She was accepted to one of the MD teams and the coach emailed her.

STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM UMD! this is getting frustrating..and they wotn tell me ovewr the fone..despite the fact i'll b at Penn next yr..i still would like to know..or else i would liuke a refund on my app. this is getting ridiculous...anyone else in the same situation

Call again and ask to speak to the admissions counselor who would be in charge of the catagory of your app....don't you have a foreign address? DO NOT talk to just anyone who answers the phone...ask to speak to some IN admissions. If you get a voice mail message, leave a message. (also ask for the person's email address...if you get a name, you can search UMD website for email addresses.) Email the Ad. c. and explain your situation. I don't think you have spoken to the right person ...and NO they won't tell you your status over the phone. But unless the suspense is killing you....let it go and have fun at Penn!

They are sending out the wait list letters on Friday for those who were admitted from the list...it's not many.

How do you know?

The person who I've been working w/ in a specific program d. has applied to, appealed for d. and I got an email from him saying he thought she was high on the wait list IF they get to it, ...and her coach appealed for her as well, so I am still hopeful to hear good news.

As I recall from the online Admissions Decision message for waitlisted students, something to the effect "we are unable to offer you a decision at this time", the student was also told in that message that they would be contacted when the process was "complete". Hopefully then, all these students will get a letter soon. In the meantime, I wish everyone happiness and success wherever they end up; may you all look forward to your fall destinations!

Any news yet on the waitlist? Did anyone hear?

Yeay...d. got admitted from the fall wait list! Decision was posted on line. I don't think very many got in from the list due to over enrollment, but some did I guess....she was lucky. Good luck to all!

desvw - since my d is going to UMCP too, I've been following your wait list saga. Glad to hear the good news! I'm sure you've already gotten the save the date postcard about Parents Weekend!!
Go Terps!!!!

Just a note on Parents weekend. We went last year (D. was a freshman)..it was beautifully organized. Buy any tickets etc you want when they send out the information fast because they sell out quick. They offer plays, a luncheon etc.
Also book the hotel quickly if you need it because that will go fast too.
The football tickets (for parents weekend game) are sold at a much lower cost than they would be if you purchased them through the regular department. BUT I have to say they are in the cheap seats ..way up high in the steepest section..so steep I could not sit there as I thought I would fall down.
Next year we are going to pass on parents weekend,..but this past year we did the game and the luncheon and it was all run very well.

No, we actually haven't received that yet. She hasn't gotten her Md. Planner yet either, but I'm sure it's on the way. Received the orientation info, so she'll get working on that. Thanks!

Ah it is sooo much fun! For such a huge school, MD is so well organized. The planner is pretty helpful with what to bring. Next year D. will be in air conditioned dorm but this year was not so we bought a Vornado fan..which was excellent. Dont forget flip flops for shower, a shower tote and basics like microwave bowls, eating utensils, can opener, laundry basket (quarters for laundry machine..it takes a lot)..Your D. will have so much fun!
The parents weekend is really nice. They have different plays, the football game (if you dont get tickets in time they show it on a big screen also) the luncheon.. etc.
The MD planner lists hotels..(the Marriott Inn at Adelphia is in walking distance - has a super brunch also for the next morning)
What fun!

well i got my letter 2day and i didn't get in off the fall waitlist so i'm gonna go to Northeastern instead. Congrats to all that got off that dumb list
