If the class schedule says that the classes waitlist is processed manually by the department, is that something that can take forever? The class I want has over 100 people on the waitlist, yet still has over a hundred openings. What are they waiting for exactly? Perhaps someone can shed some light on this subject for me. Thanks.

A manual waitlist means someone in the department goes through the waitlist and picks out all the people who have declared that major, then the upper-classmen, then ppl with minors, ect... It basically means that your position on the waitlist is meaningless if the class is filled with other students hand picked from various positions on the waitlist.

It can take forever if you're not affiliated with the department. The hundred openings are reserved for specific students.

A lot of times if you talk to the prof in cases where there's a manual waitlist, you stand to have a better shot at getting in the class- seeing as how it's fairly discretionary as to who is admitted. (Not to say that it's totally discretionary...there are certain policies that have to be followed...but they're manual for a reason- u dig?)
