Waitlist letter - What does it mean?

I see some discussion of wait lists for MSU here for last year but they don’t completely address my question. My D received a letter from MSU today (via email) that “your fine audition has allowed you to progress to our waitlist”. It says they will not be notifying students as to their final status until after April 1. Her application status for audition remains “incomplete”, as it has been since she first applied. Can anyone tell us what this means? Is this a true wait list or is this a generic letter sent to everyone who is under consideration? Does anyone know more?

Thanks!

I’m going to take a stab at this. At theatre arts day discussion with parents, the directors told the parents that they don’t overaccept and pray for rejection to meet a magic number. Rather they accept on a rolling basis and try to get commitments by asking the students to respond by a certain time (for better or for worse) Some MSU Acting BFA accepted students reported on the Theatre threads that they were told they needed to respond by March 31. Therefore we can assume that someone on the waitlist will be pulled from the waitlist and accepted if there are openings based on if they get rejections by March 31. I think it is truly a waitlist and hey, its not a rejection. Congrats!

Thanks, mom2gals. What you offer makes sense since the letter from them says you will hear after April 1, so I guess they are waiting to see who steps up to the plate! I guess we go back to waiting… UGH! Thanks.
