Waitlist Letter

Can someone please post their wait list letter?
Also, why would Dartmouth put 1,500 people on the wait list?
Is it likely that they will accept anyone one off the wait list this year?
Thank you.

they have a large wait list because of the economy, this allows them to have a bigger pool to select from…for example if their star oboe player turns down Dartmouth, they can go to their wait list for another oboe player.

I do think the ivy leaque schools (except HYP) are whistling in the dark on how the economy will affect them for thier yield. Parents makeing more $170K/yr are not going to pay full price.

The Admissions Committee has completed a review of more than 18,000 applications for admission, and we have placed your name on the waiting list. If additional places become available for the Class of 2013, we will review your application immediately. You are encouraged to remain on the waiting list if Dartmouth continues to be of serious interest to you.

In reviewing applications for the first-year class, we faced the difficult task of selecting students for 1,090 available places. The competition among applicants for the waiting list was also very rigorous; each of these students demonstrated qualities that would lead to success and contribution at Dartmouth.

At this time, we do not know if we will be able to use the waiting list; therefore, it is difficult to predict your ultimate chances for admission. I would appreciate hearing from you, as soon as possible, about your college plans. Please visit our Waiting List Reply Form for more information and to reply to our offer of a place on the waiting list. We will work to reach a final decision on your candidacy as soon after May 1st as possible. In the meantime, you should secure a place at another college even if you do decide to wait to hear from us. I hope the next few weeks go well for you.

Sincerely,
