waitlist letters tips

just one question actually. how to start off ? whats the best intro line to say I was waitlisted this year

i am trying to send something extra.. just to let me know that i will go if i am taken off waitlist. just clarifying.. so any tips?

"Dear College X, I was disappointed that I was waitlisted instead of admitted to X. X is still my first choice in colleges, though, and I am hopeful that I can be taken off the waitlist. If X takes me off the waitlist, I will forfeit my deposit at Y and enroll at X."

Make sure you replace X and Y with actual college names.
That's my useful contribution to this thread.

For waitlisted kids:

Contact the Admission Office ASAP to indicate that you would like to be reconsidered/to remain on waitlist.

Accompany your card/request letter with a short statement reaffirming your interest in the school. This is your opportunity to flesh out what you might have neglected in the initial application or to update the Admission Office with new info. Also, try to emphasize the fit/matchbetween you and the school - "fit" or "match" is the magic word here. Below and attached please find a sample of this statement.

Send additional recommendations (from teachers, peers, or current students at the school). Two is the norm, and three is the max.

A lot of students told me they did not fill in "summer earnings" in the finaid form. If this is the case and you are desperate now, you might want to tell the school that you would like to commit a summer job to contribute some of the earnings, say $1,500, towards the school's tuition. Let them feel that you make every effort to contribute to your fullest extent. Remember, from the school's point of view, paying tuition is primarily YOUR responsibility.

That's all I can think of for now. I've said this a million times, but...GOOD LUCK :)>-

Dear Mr. Incredible:

I write to reaffirm my interest in The Incredibles College in hope of coming off the waitlist and hence am able to attend The Incredibles. My academic excellence, coupled with my solid extracurricular record and success-driven personality, uniquely qualify me for The Incredibles.

{Tone: enthusiastic/excited/SINCERE about the school} My interest in The Incredibles College primarily stems from my personal experience with the school. I have done a tremendous research about The Incredibles as well as talked to current The Incredibles students. From these conversations, I gradually fell in love with The Incredibles. [State two or three UNIQUE/DISTINCT characteristics about the school in two or three SHORT sentences – “unique and distinct” herein means you can’t find them anywhere else. It can be an honor program, a special academic curriculum or some fantastic research opportunities.]

{Tone: assertive/positive/self-confident} As indicated in my application, I have achieved a stellar academic record. However, my enthusiasm, energy and dedication extend not just to academics to other aspects of life as well. [Highlight two or three activities/positions you like most in two or three SHORT sentences]. At The Incredibles College, I expect to continue pursuing these activities to which I owe most of my leadership skills and my deep commitment to society.

{Tone: aggressive} The Incredibles College, one of the world’s finest and most rigorous colleges, is always my first choice. I am totally confident that my unique background and distinct values have shaped me into an individual who will stimulate the intellectual atmosphere as well as enrich the lives of all other individuals at The Incredibles. Perhaps most importantly, The Incredibles College is a perfect match for me and I deserve the chance for my dedication, determination, and hard work.

Again, I very much would like to attend the Incredibles College. I hope you will take my application into positive consideration, and, by admitting, you will soon identify me as a talented individual with much promise. Thank you for your time and effort and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Say that you respect their decision to waitlist you, and that you still really want to go to their school. Also, try to find something unique about the school to mention (i.e., maybe you're a flutist and they have a flute professor you're dying to study with) to show that you actually care about the school and have been looking into it.

what should i put above the achool address to let em know that this is "still interested" letter.. u know. i'm worried they might disregard it otherwise

lol i know that... but u know how u had to put like "first semester mid year report" and other titles "supplement form" above the address to let them know what it was... what should i name the letter as?

is this kinda letter helpful even though a school explioitly saying "there is no need to send an additional recommendation, letter, blabhalbhla"????

arr..

well the school encouraged extra info, but it was kinda "against" recommendation coz they usually restate the same info
