Ok, so as the 15 april approaches, I’m curious how many people on collegeboard have got waitlisted and accepted the place on it so if you are waitlisted add your name on the list and beside put an A if you have accepted or an R if you’ve rejected spot…

Best of luck for all of us, I hope they’ll have space for us too :D

what kind of updates has everyone else sent in?
im afraid that not enough has happened to me for me to be let in :/
the only thing i sent in was several placemetns in competitions, a new letter of rec, a letter indicating interest, and mid-semester grades. I hope thats enough crosses fingers

heheheh, well i'm 99.9999999% sure that nobody has made some kind of perpetuum mobile in this short time, so no worries :)
i still haven't sent in anything yet, just wrote two emails.. but i'll probably be sending new letter of rec, a research paper, don't have mid-semester grades, so nothing to send there, will be sending a report about competitions... and well... that's about it hehehe

urgh, waitlist is like... a boyfriend you love and hate at the same time.. grrr

hasn't anyone rejected their waitlist..lol...it's just that I'm trying to see how my chances are...how do you guys fancy your chances..what's your backup university...do you think people will leave Caltech for something else? maybe MIT, princeton or something?

The Caltech email said that the waiting list is unranked...what's that exactly mean...does that mean they won't really go back to the original application and just make the decision based on what they recieve from here on? And guys, when do you think should be the latest to send something? Maybe May 1st?

I believe the letter I received mentioend that the latest we could send in additioal materials was April 20th. However, if I had to guess, I'd say this is more of a "if you send it later we won't guarantee itwill be taken into account" kind of thing. I mean, if you e-mailed your couneslor with more updates after the "deadline," I can't imagine they'd be angry or anything. That being said, I did make sure everything new was in by the 20th just to be safe.

About the waitlist being unranked, I'm not really sure. Maybe at this point thye just consider everyone about on par with each otherand only care about what new comes it. I'm really not quite sure.

it might be because youre international. I didnt get an email at all. Just a letter in the mail. If I were you, I would email additional updates now, and in that email ask if it would be okay to send updates after the 20th. Then, (assumign they say its okay, which I would guess would be the case) send in email on the 26th when you find out.
On hte other hand, maybe they have an entirely different policy with internationals. Good luck!

Thanks GleasSpty...good luck to you too, What's your backup university? Hope spots open up...And you have sent quite a lot to CalTech...doesn't seem inadequate...mine isn't too different...hoping 26th works out for me.

Hehe I don't have a US backup university :)

Anyways, I've sent my letter to caltech today, they're probably going to get it by the end of the month.. I hope that the "deadline" was for postmarking mail by 20th :)
Well at least, I don't think they will do anything about the waitlist until they get all of the replies on the 1st of May.. So probably that would be a "real deadline" to send anything..

"do you think people will leave Caltech for something else? maybe MIT, princeton or something?"

well based on previous years statistics, a lot of people will decide to enroll at MIT, Stanford and ... hmm some third college, instead of Caltech. But nobody can tell how many people will actually decide to enroll... That's why they making waiting lists in first place ;)

Hmmm.. that's a very interesting question.. do they actually look only at the new stuff.. i'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing for me if they do hahahha :)))

BTW guys, has any of you tried to contact your counselor? I've sent two emails to the international counselor, and he hasn't replied to any :( I'm not sure how to interpret this :/ ..

My backup university if UChicago. I won't reallly mind going there. it's a good school and all, but really, Caltech is the right place for me. I definitely will be able to accept it if I don't get off the waitlist, but a part of me will definitely be disappointed, and probalby for a very long time to come.

When I emailed my counselor after being deferred, I didn't recieve a confirmation back. Then, about a month later, I received an email from him stating that they had not received any updates from me and was wondering if I would still like to be considered for admission. Of course, that does'nt mean that they haven't received your emails, but it might be wise to call and confirm this. The odds are they did receive them, but it's kind of a big deal (presumably) if they haven't. I have also recently had trouble with some of my professors receiving my emails, so when I emailed my counselor with updates after i was waitlisted, I asked if he would confirm that he received my email b/c I didn't want a repeat of what happened when i was deferred.

I wrote to Caltech twice...once by mail, sending that official reply form, and once by email. For the email, I got a reply but I didn't get an official confirmation that I'm in the list.. Did you guys get something??

"foo182, did you get an email saying that the deadline was 20th??"

nope, it didn't say in the email i think.. but there are three pages inside of the envelope we get, and one of those pages is the one for additional information you want to send them etc.. well on it it says that you should send all the information till 20 of april ;)

guess i'll have to send them a third email, in case they didn't notice the last two.. i just don't want to be a pain in the ass (you know one of those "did you get my letter? did you get my letter? did you get my letter?" kids ;) )
