Waitlist movement already?

Admissions blog on JHU site reports that final JHU wait list decisions will not be made until end of the month, and everyone on the wait list will be notified at that time.

Someone on Middlebury Board reports being told by admissions office that, at this point, only males would be accepted off the waiting list.

This is on the UNC-Chapel Hill Website

Update on Wait List Decisions

Please note that final decisions will be mailed on a rolling basis over the next few weeks to all students who accepted a place on our waiting list. All decisions will be mailed as soon as they are finalized.

Are most schools still making decisions or are the acceptances trickling off?

Movements in the waitlist of Swarthmore should have been expected, as they lowered their admission rate by a sizeable margin (in response to a surge in applications of about 20%.)

Xiggi:

20 to 30 off the waitlist would be about average for Swat over the last seven years. I think they target that because it gives them a little flexiblity in "topping off" the class -- both in terms of numbers and targeted needs.

Last year, they took 18 off the waitlist -- all by the middle of May. They were overenrolled by 10 on May 15th, right where they wanted to be. Then, they got virtually no "summer melt" and ended up over-enrolled by 8 students or so. Obviously, the gating factor in summer melt at a place like Swarthmore is usually waitlist movement at Harvard, Yale, etc. and, to some degree, the number of deposited students who opt to defer enrollment to travel or whatever.

I would have expected waitlist numbers to be higher this year because the percentage of non-white accepted students rose from 52% (not counting Internationals). Statistically, that should lower yield as non-white students enroll at lower rates than white students.

One caveat: I have found that there isn't much correlation between what colleges say about waitlist movement in May and what they actually end up reporting on the Common Data Set filings in October.

"Just got a letter from CMC saying they've reached and exceeded their enrollment target for 2006."

This means no or little waitlist movement.

There will be no wait list movement at UChicago. They anticipated enrolling 1210 students and 1322 sent in deposits.

Bowdoin will not be taking anyone from their waitlist.

Overbooked at Trinity...how do you know this? Just curious.

I got a letter in the mail. This is Trinity College (CT), not Trinity University in San Antonio.

I assumed so. I had not realized it would be overbooked. Thanks.

I read xiggi and interesteddad's post. My son is on wait list at Swarthmore.
It is unbelievable that they have not responded yet. Their form letter says we will hear by July 1st. Has anyone heard any other information?
Our son was admitted to Tufts, and their student grant was good, and we just want to get on with our plans-

Waitlist movement at Trinity College. My son received a phone call last Friday.

Congrat's on your son's acceptance and welcome to CC!

Incorrect, my student got off the waitlist last week.

MOMDA, just a thought: did you misunderstand ohio_mom's comment? When she welcomed you to CC, she was welcoming you to College Confidential, since you just joined. (She was not (sarcastically or otherwise) welcoming your son to community college, in case that's what you might have been thinking?)

So welcome and thanks for the info. I see that this thread was from 2006, should we create a new one for 2007 to announce waitlist movement for this year?
