I aplogize if this is a duplicate thread, but I did not find any discussion on the topic....

We are coming into that final 10 days in April, and all of the college counselors have told me that this year the bets are off regarding wait lists....has anyone seen any movement yet?

Is anyone declining acceptances at NYU because the financial aid is too low?

I'm between a rock and a hard place because some schools consider me a transfer and some a true freshman as I have been a non degree student this year...( After early graduation form high school in 3 years) I'm waittlisted at my first choice and have not heard from another three I would consider and I will not until May 1st...

My casting director just sent the most fabulous recommendation to my first choice, but will it make a difference?

We completed a FAFSA, but did not request financial aid, but they were on the checked list, do I need to fix this? We will attend and come up with our own loans...

Generally waitlist movement will not happen until after May 1st. For transfer students it may be a bit later, since transfer students often hear later than April 1st and therefor may be given a later date for making a final decision.

NYU did not send any form to reply, NO, I am not coming, that I found. Some schools did, so do you let those without forms know, or just do nothing?

PS - some wait lists are wiggling - in this economy you may see some offers before May 1. Think about it, if they wait til after May 1, fewer yeses will come in off the wait list. Some will have made the decision and will not move.

It would be polite to let every school you are not planning to attend know that you are declining their offer even if they did not send a form or postcard for this purpose. I suppose if you don’t let them know, it will become clear on May 1 anyway but it would be nice to formally decline. As well, the sooner the better, in deference to kids on the wait list at those schools.

It is possible that a wait list can have movement before May 1, particularly at a BFA program that accepted the exact number of slots available (ie., CMU and Otterbein accept the number equal to the size of the class). But MOST colleges accept more students than slots available and so they would have to wait and see how many slots ultimately get filled and the replies are not due until May 1. But if it is a small BFA program, and they didn’t accept any extras or very few, it is possible that they would already know whether they must go to the wait list.

Some schools are letting students know before May 1 about waitlists I’m assuming, bc UCF forced me to give them a Yes or No today, even though I told them I was still figuring things out financially etc and didn’t have a final answer, but they had to have one, so I told them No, but I found it weird because the Nat’l Reply Date is May 1. But what can ya do. I guess I made a good faith move that things will work out at my other option or potential options if NYU comes through in May (fingers crossed).
